Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday he thought left guard David Arkin “did some good things” in Saturday’s 12-7 loss to Arizona.
Arkin, who gave up a sack, got the start only because starter Nate Livings and backup Ron Leary are both out after undergoing knee surgery.
“(The Cardinals) have a good front, some good interior rushers, guys who have been active in this league for a longtime,” Garrett said at a news conference in Irving. “Ark hung in there. Some of the other issues he’s had in the pass show up, but he’s improving, and I thought he competed well.”
Garrett said Livings is progressing, while Leary told reporters he hopes to be ready for the Sept. 8 season opener against the Giants after he had surgery last week.
“You want to be out there and get these reps, but I’ll be all right,” Leary said. “I’ll be back.”
