GLENDALE, Ariz. – With their talks with veteran guard Brian Waters at a standstill, the Dallas Cowboys have pushed away from the table, owner Jerry Jones said Saturday.

Whether they return to make another run at the six-time Pro Bowler is uncertain.

“It takes two,” Jones said. “We weren’t able to get it done. That doesn’t mean you’re not going to get it done later at all. It just means it’s not done right now.”

The Cowboys are in the market for a guard after starter Nate Livings and backup Ron Leary suffered knee injuries at training camp that required arthroscopic surgery. The procedures put their participation in the Sept. 8 season opener against the New York Giants in jeopardy.

Brandon Moore, who decided to retire rather than accept the Cowboys offers.
Waters, 36, sat out last season.

Albright faces surgery: Nearly a month after defensive end Tyrone Crawford suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon, the Cowboys have learned that another defender is lost for the season.

Jones said linebacker Alex Albright faces back surgery that will sideline him.

“I don’t know all of the details, but I know it’s a significant injury,” Jones said. “He’s out for the season.”
