IRVING – Jerry Jones is pumped about the season kicking off with a primetime encounter with the hated New York Giants at AT&T Stadium.

So much so, he’s having trouble sleeping.

“Popped up at 4:30 this morning,” Jones said Tuesday on his radio show on Dallas’ KRLD-FM. “It’s just an exciting time to think we’ve got the team on the field we do. This is a big game, we open it up nationally (on Sunday Night Football) at AT&T Stadium.
“(It’s) almost more than I can handle.”

Perhaps a healthy dose of fear is also preventing Jones from sleeping peacefully. The Cowboys haven’t been to the playoffs since 2009, an embarrassing stretch for a once proud franchise that owns five Super Bowl titles, but none since the one played after the 1995 season.

Making matters worse, the Cowboys finished 8-8 the last two seasons after losing playoffs-or-bust season finales to division foes with the NFC East crown on the line.

“Boy, do I feel pressure because of the fact we haven’t met expectations,” Jones admitted.

The Cowboys’ injury situation also might be keeping him up at nights, although Jones offered some good news, saying he believes cornerback Mo Claiborne and left guard Ron Leary will redady be for action Sunday night. On the negative side of the injury ledger, Jones said he believes defensive end Anthony Spencer will be limited against the Giants.

All three players are coming off knee injuries.
