DALLAS – Jerry Jones wants to reward Dwayne Harris for his outstanding special teams work in the Cowboys’ season-opening 36-31 win over the New York Giants.
Harris led the team with three special teams tackles. He also returned two punts for 19 yards.
“He can help us all over the entire football team,” Jones told KRLD-FM on Tuesday morning. “As you know he’s our returner and he also, though, can be a top third receiver. He will get more play time there. That should really make him a complete player with a lot of plays in the game. I am really pleased to see him step up.”
Rookie Terrance Williams disappointed against the Giants as the No. 3 wideout. Tony Romo targeted Williams four times, with one pass intercepted after Williams possibly ran the wrong route.
“We weren’t as on the same page as we would like to be in that particular play and the ball got tipped up in the air, and when the ball gets tipped up in the air in the NFL, bad things can happen,” coach Jason Garrett said of the interception Monday.
New York’s Ryan Mundy returned the interception 91 yards before he got dragged down by Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray.
Williams finished with two catches for 32 yards. Harris, who was targeted three times, had two catches for 12 yards.
