ARLINGTON – Jerry Jones poked fun at himself after Sunday night’s 31-16 victory over the Commanders.
With the win, the Cowboys travel to Philadelphia next weekend to face the Eagles in a clash of teams atop the NFC East with 3-3 records. The victory also enabled Dallas to avoid its first three-game losing streak since it lost five straight in 2010.
“This game had a lot riding on it,” said Jones, who turned 71 Sunday. “I don’t want to call it pressure, but it just was a lot riding on it. We did not need to lose this ballgame. And this was a moral victory.”
Last week, critics piled on Jones after he called the Cowboys’ 51-48 loss to Denver a moral victory.
While it’s debatable that there is such a thing in pro sports, it’s hard to dispute that Dallas recorded a much-needed win against Washington. With their confidence restored, the Cowboys move on to Philadelphia, where they can take control of the division.
