SAN ANTONIO – DeMarcus Ware says his poor play can’t be blamed on his health, but Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin begs to differ.
“D-Ware, you may say whatever you want, the guy’s been banged up,” Kiffin told reporters Wednesday in Irving. “He’s trying to play hurt, and you’ve got to admire the guy for that. But he wants to play better and we want him to play better.”
Ware missed three games in the middle of the season with a quad injury. He was sidelined at practice Wednesday with a back injury.
“You don’t need two or three injuries, you just need one to slow you down,” Kiffin said.
Ware vowed before last Sunday’s game with Green Bay that he would return to his Pro Bowl form, but he had only one assisted tackle and one pressure in the 37-36 loss.
Ware, 31, has just 6.0 stats. The only other time he’s finished a season with single-digit sacks was as a rookie in 2005 when he had 8.0.
