Cowboys coach Jason Garrett expressed disappointment Tuesday that second-year left guard Ron Leary got tired in the preseason-opening 24-20 win over Miami on Sunday while taking every offensive snap.

“Ron played 62 plays in the game and did a lot of good things,” Garrett said during his news conference in Oxnard, Calif. “He was strong, physical and explosive. But he also got tired. And a lot of those guys who played a lot of snaps got tired and they have to understand what they need to do to be able to play at this level. Typically, you don’t replace offensive linemen during a game. Starters play the whole game.

“So, a lot of real positives for Ron Leary. But being able to sustain that throughout the ball game is important to him, as it was for a lot of our younger players.”

Leary moved up to the first team after Nate Livings had knee surgery last week. Livings is expected to miss two to four weeks.
