SAN ANTONIO – Middle linebacker Sean Lee returned to practice Thursday for the first time since he suffered a hamstring injury in New Orleans on Nov. 10.
Lee’s return came on a wintry day in Irving, with temperatures dipping into the mid-30s and rain falling at times. It was ideal conditions for a team preparing to play Monday night in frigid Chicago, where forecasters are calling for a high of 27 degrees and a low of 5.
“We want to practice here, outside,” coach Jason Garrett told reporters in Irving. “The weather has been good to us. Going up to play in some of these northern cities where the weather is bad, a couple of weeks ago against the Giants, we got some bad weather down here in the days leading up to that and we thought that was a positive to go out there and practice in it.
“It sounds like the weather’s not going to be great here the next couple of days, so we’re going to embrace that opportunity as well.”
With more bad weather expected, the Cowboys could move their Friday workout to Highland Park High School’s indoor facility, according to ESPNDallas.com. AT&T Stadium isn’t available to the team because of Friday night’s Kentucky-Baylor men’s basketball game.
Lee sat out the last two games, but he’s expected to play against the Bears after fully participating in Thursday’s practice. Linebacker Justin Durant, who has also been sidelined since injuring a hamstring against the Saints, also returned to practice Thursday.
Cornerback Morris Claiborne and wide receiver/return man Dwayne Harris didn’t practice and are expected to miss their second straight games.
Meanwhile, Bears coach Marc Trestman announced that quarterback Jay Cutler will not return to play against the Cowboys on Monday night. Josh McCown will start at quarterback for the Bears.
Cutler has been out since Nov. 10 with a high ankle sprain.
