INDIANAPOLIS – Former Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel failed to live up to his prediction of measuring 6 feet at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Kerrville Tivy graduate came in just below the mark at 5 foot 11 ¾, according to NFL.com. He weighed in at 207 pounds with a hand size of 9 7/8 inches, the best among the combine’s quarterbacks.
Manziel told the Houston Chronicle before the combine he would “measure 6 feet — I’m 72 inches on the dot.”

“If they want to try to jump on my shoulders and squish me down, it’s not going to be any less than that,” Manziel told the newspaper in mid-February.

Of course, being under 6 feet should be no big deal for a quarterback after 5-foot-11 Russell Wilson guided the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl win.

Manziel has a lot of fans among the NFL coaches at the combine, including Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.

“I met after one of our games and I just said, ‘Congratulations,’ ” Garrett said. “He’s a great football player and someone I admire a great deal. If you’re a fan of football and you watch Texas A&M play, he’s something else. He’s done an amazing job in a short period of time during his career for that program. He’s really fun to watch.

“I think with all young players, particularly at that position, studying the game and working hard at the game is really important and understanding those kind of work habits. If you look at the best players who ever played that position, they’re the best workers in that building. That made them great leaders. And that made them great players. So I would give that advice to anybody. And certainly everybody is excited to see where he goes and what he does because he is such a great football player.”
