SAN ANTONIO – Conventional wisdom says one of the best ways to beat the high-scoring Broncos would be to limit red-hot quarterback Peyton Manning’s possessions.
So will the Cowboys’ commit to a clock-killing, ground game Sunday afternoon?
“I don’t think so,” running back DeMarco Murray told reporters Friday in Irving. “We got a good defense. They give us a lot of opportunities with takeaways and that they’re playing well for us. We know they’re a good offense, but we’re a good offense as well. We’re going to continue to play our game and control what we can control and score as many points as we can like we do any other week.”
Murray, of course, could be indulging in some gamesmanship. The Cowboys defense he said is “playing well for us” yielded 506 yards of total offense, including 401 through the air, in San Diego.
Denver leads the NFL in scoring average (44.8 points) and total offense (483.0). Manning ranks first in the league in passer rating (138.0), completion percentage (75.0), passing yards (1,470), touchdown passes (16) and yards per attempt (9.4).
Murray is the NFL’s third-leading rusher with 356 yards.
