IRVING – The Cowboys apparently took a major step Tuesday toward solving their offensive line woes.
Citing an anonymous source, NFL.com reported that the team has agreed to terms with guard Brian Waters, a 36-year-old North Texas alumnus who was out of the NFL last season.
The two sides started negotiating in late July. With their line depleted by injuries, the Cowboys have been searching for a starting five, even going as far as lining up right tackle Doug Free at right guard while moving Mackenzy Bernadeau to left guard.
While it’s unlikely Waters would be ready to play in Sunday’s opener against the New York Giants, the Cowboys could play him at left guard in Week 2 at Kansas City while leaving Free at right guard.
