Mess with Manning: Dallas has allowed an NFL-record four 400-yard passers this season, beginning with Eli Manning in the season-opening 36-31 win over New York. The cold, windy weather will aid the Cowboys in their efforts to contain him this time around, but they also need a strong pass rush from ends George Selvie and DeMarcus Ware. Selvie is having the best year of his career and should be able to beat rookie right tackle Justin Pugh, who has struggled in pass protection this season. Manning has thrown just two interceptions during the Giants’ four-game winning streak after throwing 15 in the first six games. If Ware, Selvie and Co. can’t get to him, it could be another long day for Monte Kiffin’s defense.
Ground it out: The Giants have allowed only two touchdowns in the last 18 quarters and rank seventh in the NFL in pass defense (98.0 yards per game) after shutting down some big name runners, including Adrian Peterson and LeSean McCoy. Still, with their passing game struggling and the weather working against Tony Romo having a big day, the Cowboys must establish a running game. Fortunately for Dallas, tailback DeMarco Murray has averaged 5.4 yards per carry in three career games against the Giants and finished the opener wit 86 yards on 20 carries.
Depend on Dwayne : Cowboys’ do-it-all special teams ace Dwayne Harris could have another big day, considering the Giants are either last in the league or next to last in kickoff and punt coverage. Harris ranks second in the league in both categories, averaging 32.3 yards on kickoffs and 15.1 yards on punts. New York, meanwhile has allowed three punt returns for touchdowns and an average of 26.3 yards per kickoff return. All season, Harris has had an uncanny knack for making big plays in big moments. The Cowboys desperately need that trend to continue on a day when the weather and the Giants defense could combine to make it difficult for them to move the ball.
Prediction: The desperate Giants are on a roll, revenge-minded and will be playing at home in the cold and wind. Another reason to like them: The Cowboys just aren’t the same team without fiery middle linebacker Sean Lee, who is out with a hamstring injury. GIANTS 30, COWBOYS 20
