ARLINGTON – Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will have his ribs X-rayed Monday morning after sustaining a hit late in the first half of the Cowboys’ 36-31 win over the Giants that briefly drove him from the game.
Romo got crunched by two defenders during a sack. He returned at the start of the second half after Kyle Orton closed the first half.
“It’s football,” Romo said of playing in pain in the second half. “You just take shots throughout a game and just keep playing. Believe me, there are about 28 other guys out there who went through the same thing. It was a good game. Hard fought.”
Romo played during the 2011 season with a punctured lung and injured ribs after sustaining the injuries in a Week Two win at San Francisco.
“I wouldn’t put this one in that class,” he said.
Despite his injury against the Giants, Romo was 36-of-49 for 263 yards with two touchdowns – both to Jason Witten – and an interception. He finished with a 90.8 passer rating.
Two other starters suffered injuries. Cornerback Mo Claiborne dislocated a shoulder. Wide receiver Dez Bryant suffered a foot injury.
Their status for next week’s game at Kansas City is uncertain.
