NEW ORLEANS – Rookie safety Kenny Vaccaro has become one of Rob Ryan’s biggest supporters in New Orleans.
In helping the Saints rank ninth in total defense in the NFL, Vaccaro is third on the team in tackles with 53. He also has contributed five passes defensed, one interception and one sack.
“He’s a great dude,” the former Texas star said of Ryan, who is in his first season as the Saints defensive coordinator after the Cowboys fired him in January.
“I am really glad I have had the opportunity to play for him, especially with the way he uses me and the way he just lets me be me on the field. I couldn’t imagine starting out in the NFL with any other coordinator. We have gotten closer and closer. He really believes in me and I trust in him.”
Vaccaro said he enjoys the many ways he’s been utilized on the field by Ryan.
“I have played a ton of different positions,” the first-round draft pick said. “It’s an honor, though. He said he has never put this much on a rookie. But he says he believes I’m special and that I can do it.”
