The Dallas Cowboys will have to turn elsewhere to find help for their injury-weakened offensive line.
That’s because veteran guard Brandon Moore informed the club Wednesday morning that he is going to retire rather than accept their offer.
Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo broke the story, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
“I’m a man of my word,” Moore told Garafolo. “I hated letting Bill (Callahan) down.”
Moore spent the last nine seasons as a starter for the New York Jets. A Pro Bowl pick in 2011, he was released in the offseason by the Jets in a salary cap purge.
If the Cowboys had signed the 33-year-old Moore, he would have been reunited with offensive coordinator Bill Callahan, who was with the Jets for four years (2008-2011) as their offensive line coach.
Dallas is looking for a veteran to compete with Mackenzy Bernadeau at right guard.
