Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware isn’t buying Jerry Jones’ belief that last week’s 51-48 loss to Denver was a moral victory.

“At the end of the day, an ‘L’ is an ‘L’ and a ‘W’ is a ‘W,’ ” Ware told NBC’s Bob Costas in an interview that will air before Sunday night’s nationally televised game with Washington. “We lost that game. There aren’t any moral victories. When we lose, we lose and it hurts. You have to find some way to fight back, and we’re going to do that this week.”

While Ware disagreed with Jones, the defensive end sided with his defensive coordinator. Monte Kiffin said last week that the defense – not Tony Romo – should be blamed for the loss to Denver after blowing a double-digit lead and giving up 500-plus yards for the second week in a row.

Romo passed for a club-record 506 yards and five touchdowns, but his fourth-quarter interception paved the way for Denver to kick the winning field goal as time expired.

“I feel the same way,” Ware said. “If the offense is going to put 48 points, you’ve got to win the game no matter if someone throws an interception at the end of the game or how someone plays in the last two minutes. We preach finish.”

The Cowboys, who have lost two straight to fall to 2-3, face a crucial stretch with back-to-back games against Washington (1-3) and Philadelphia (2-3). The Eagles are 2-3 are playing at Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon.

“(We) have an opportunity to put the smack down,” Ware said. “We got to get it done.”

Elsewhere Sunday, Fox analyst Michael Strahan took Romo to task for his costly interception.

“Romo is the basketball player that can’t hit the clutch shot,” Strahan said. “He’s the baseball player that hits well in the regular season, but can’t hit anything in the playoffs. I don’t know what it is but, but at least he has a long career ahead of him in order to change this.”
