SAN ANTONIO – Cowboys Rookie safety J.J. Wilcox was scheduled to undergo an MRI after suffering a knee injury in Thursday’s practice, the team’s web site reported.
If Wilcox can’t play against Detroit on Sunday, the Cowboys likely will start undrafted rookie Jeff Heath.
Wilcox, a third-round pick from Georgia Southern, became a starter in Week 3. He is seventh on the team with 28 tackles.
Wilcox suffered the injury while attempting to break up a pass to rookie tight end Gavin Escobar in the end zone during red zone drills.
