INDIANAPOLIS – Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is a big fan of the 2014 draft class.
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years and this is the deepest draft I’ve ever seen,” Colbert said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “You can look across the board and I can’t see a position where there isn’t more depth than there’s ever been.”
But Colbert does have at least one concern, and it has to do with the record 98 underclassmen that will be available in the May 8-10 draft. The list of early entries includes several players the Cowboys are probably eyeing. Among them are safeties Ha Ha Clinton-Dix from Alabama and Calvin Pryor from Louisville. Several defensive linemen likely on Dallas’ radar are also underclassmen.
“This is a huge jump and, even though it’s the most talented group I’ve seen, I’m also worried it’s probably the most immature group,” Colbert said. “We have to be prepared for more player development-type programs.”
