KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It will be interesting to see if Lance Dunbar lands in Jason Garrett’s dog house after committing a costly fumble in Sunday’s 17-16 loss at Kansas City.
The Chiefs converted Dunbar’s fumble on a pass reception late in the third quarter into a field goal that pushed their lead to 17-13 early in the fourth.
In a 12-7 preseason loss at Arizona, Dunbar made a 43-yard reception but fumbled the ball away at the end of the scamper.
“He’s been a good player for us,” Garrett said Sunday of Dunbar, who missed the opener with a foot injury. “We gave him a play that he’s been comfortable running. He just didn’t secure the football. It was a big play in the game.”
Jerry Jones defended Dunbar, saying he wanted to see more of the diminutive back after he ran for 12 yards on his only carry.
“I wanted more of Dunbar, not to take anything away from (DeMarco) Murray,” Jones said. “I was glad when we got him in there. I thought he added a zip. I thought he would add a zip. We had about four or five special plays for Dunbar and one of them really worked beautifully when he came in here. I was glad to see him in there.”
