In the Giants games the snap counts for the Safeties:
Jones 41
Wilcox 41
Church 40
Heath 3

I reviewed all snaps to verifying the pairings to see how they were using Jones.

Jones replaced Church 13 times (i.e. Jones and Wilcox on the field together)
Jones replaced Wilcox 12 times (i.e. Jones and Church on the field together)
Jones played as the TE Specialist 18 times (i.e. Jones on the field with Wilcox/Church or Wilcox/Heath)

When all 3 were on the field together is was a Dime package with 6 DBs (White as the slot CB). They used a 3 man DL in Dime 8 times which is basically replacing a DT with Rolando McClain.

Wilcox and Church appeared to play their normal positions when paired with Jones; therefore, Jones was playing both FS and SS at times.

I looked at the snaps when Jones was with just Church or just Wilcox to see if it was based on down distance; however, that did not appear to be the case. If Jones, Wilcox were together for a series they generally stayed together for that series with Church coming in if they went with all 3 Safeties in a Dime package. If Jones, Church were together they tended to stay together in that series with Wilcox coming in on Dime. Finally, if Church and Wilcox were together they tended to stay together with Jones coming in on Dime.

That's 3 too many.

At this point, I feel it's unlikely Jeff Heath will receive a restricted free agent tender in the off-season. He might return for the minimum if another team doesn't offer anything. Heath's a special teams player with no upside as a safety. That isn't worth RFA money.

As for Byron Jones is he going to be a cover safety?

Maybe.

Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox are both under contract next season while CBs Morris Claiborne and Corey White are set to become unrestricted free agents. Brandon Carr is under contract next year ($9.1M), but will he see a penny of it or finally get released?

I didn't think there was a chance Carr would play this season without adjusting his contract and I was wrong.

I will be thinking the same thing in 2016.

Extending Claiborne and/or White before a decision on Carr is needed would make the call easier.
