Been watching the 40 times on this group and this is a very fast group of safeties compared to other years. Speed isn't everything obviously but there are a decent amount of guys here to take a flyer on and see if we get lucky.

Edit: woops, meant to post this in Draft zone...feel free to move this mods.

Troy Apke out of Penn State is really intriguing....white guy that ran 40 at 4.35....but his build is tall but slight....he doesn't look overly physical....potentially he's a FS?

I know a lot of people had interest in the safety out of Bama, Fitzpatrick, he ran a 4.47

But how many people where talking about Apke before today?

I've watched 20 or so Penn State games the last few years, even attended a practice and their bowl game in person. Marcus Allen stood out some times. The corner (Haley) occasionally flashed. This kid never really did.

Speed of this group is exceptional. Field portion is going to be really interesting now.

Yeah, I wasn't necessarily making a case for him cuz I've definitely not heard his name before today. Nevertheless, his athleticism is intriguing.

Potentially not even a 53 man roster dude.

He did nothing at PSU.

So, with it looking like Jones really will move back to corner, Safety does become a position of need for us. Any names to look out for in the mid-rounds ? 3rd round on, at work so will watch tonight.
Heard them talkinv about White as super smart guy, won the accademic award for college players. Does his game translate as a mid round guy ? Or who are some others we should look at ?

He didn't run....I think he was the one they briefly discussed, Mayock said he really wanted to see him run but then Rich Eisen said he would not run until his pro day.

I like M.J Stewart from UNC. He can play corner but some feel his best position in the pros is safety. Very physical, can cover slot or matchup with TEs. Had a good senior bowl as well. Could be had in the 3rd I think was the last I saw

I think there has been a total of 9 guys at Safety who ran under a 4.5 40 so far....which is pretty impressive as a group....hell 4.6 and under is fairly fast for a safety.
The average for safeties since 2000 is 4.57, from what I saw earlier.

I'm kinda falling in love with Justin Reid out of Stanford....4.40 in the 40, well built at 6'1, 16 reps on the bench press (tied for 11th) and I liked the way his hips moved when turning in the coverage drills....if he slips to us in round 2, I would definitely consider it.

Hopefully this is the year we fix safety. With Byron moving back to CB, we really need two.

Earl is the dream but we're not even sure he'll be available. We tried to trade for Kenny Vaccaro last year, and with the Saints signing Kurt Coleman last week, Vaccaro will hit the open market.

Vaccaro and let's say, Jessie Bates (third round pick) back there really changes the look and feel of this defense.
