Report: Jerry Jones will target safeties in free agency

One position that seemingly went overlooked in the draft for the Cowboys was safety, a position that was at the core of the pass-defense problems a year ago.

According to Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly, he's heard for months that defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has targeted some veterans to go after, players who will fit his scheme, and it only makes sense to think that former Raiders S Michael Huff could be one of them.

Ryan coached Huff when the two were in Oakland together a few years back. Sources say Ryan has Jerry Jones' ear and that the owner will target a veteran of his choosing at the position.

Give me Sensabaugh and Huff. Seriously, Sensabaugh was so far from being the problem last year it was crazy. Ball was basically non-existent and brought the whole secondary down.

I don't know who they will get for sure, but they should sign two new safeties, imo. Elam and Poole would be good choices. They need an upgrade, regardless.

I heard on DC.com (one of their radio shows) that the Cowboys were not too thrilled about Sensabaugh's asking price. If that is the case, I look for 2 new safeties, and that would probably be a good route, anyway. Shake it up good. It's a new system, anyway.

I think it was Nick Eatman who said he knows Manning wants to come here real bad.

He is a return man as well. I'm all for it as a nice plan B if Huff wants to much money.

If we only get rid of one of the two? Absolutely.

Ball is still a young guy and still has value for us at CB. We're thin there and he's a good athlete.

Well i figured it'd be a given he wouldn't be our starting safety again next year. Sheesh.

If we go into next season with either of those guys starting again for us it'll be a felony.

Sensebaugh didn't hit anyone, couldn't cover anyone, and missed so many tackles i question whether he's even a SS or a FS who's way too slow. He was awful.

Manning played football at Abilene Christian University. My home town which is only 2 hrs. and 45 minutes away from the DFW area. He'd be an instant upgrade over Ball. But I bet we get Huff and keep Sensebaugh. If Gerald's asking price is too much, then Manning or Landry would be my two pet picks after Huff to complete the safety position.

I like Weddle a lot, I probably would prefer him over Huff to be honest but I dont think he is leaving the Bolts.
