Currently, the Cowboys have two healthy safeties and a CB who can play some safety.

Marvin White was claimed by Detroit so the 'boys have to look elsewhere.

Not much out there for the 'boys to pick from. A look at the "top" available free agents. Looks like they need to go the practice squad route. Anybody know of any young safeties?

Terrence Holt

Grade 58
Expert's Take
Holt has good size and strength with limited athleticism for the secondary. He isn't great in space to attack the line of scrimmage as a run-support player. He doesn't always play under control and tends to grab more than wrap up, when tackling. He has good vision and reads routes well as they unfold, but lacks great speed and burst to be an effective coverage defender. He has excellent intelligence and does a nice job with checks and adjustments to line up a secondary. Holt doesn't have great natural athleticism, but can be effective in limited secondary schemes.

Michael Boulware

Grade 55
Expert's Take
Boulware didn't play in 2008 (IR early in the season) and was very limited in 2007 when he was with the Houston Texans. With his size and athleticism, Boulware is somewhat of a tweener (linebacker / safety). He doesn't have the great quickness, burst and lateral agility to play as an NFL DB, and Boulware's not physical enough to play linebacker in base defensive schemes. He is inconsistent reading and reacting off the hash or out of centerfield as plays unfold. Boulware doesn't always keep his pads over his feet as a run-support player which exposes his quickness in the open field. Boulware has great straight-line speed and could be signed as a special team's contributor and nickel linebacker
