Been reading and hearing a lot about every position but Safety. Anyone hear anything about Wilson, Hooker, Kazee or Mukamuru's(I know I butchered that) play. Have not read anything about them in practice or games.

It's probably a good thing nobody is talking about Safety.

Kazee
Wilson
Kearse
Hooker
Makumu

These are the guys who should make the 53 imho. Three of the top 4 Safeties are in a contract year, so I'd like to keep Makumu around for next year. Hopefully, they can get Coyle back on PS. Thompson has been playing well too... finally some options at S for the Cowboys.

I like that group and hope they do stay healthy. That will be the key. But since several are in their contract years i am not opposed to them drafting a FS in the top 3 rounds next year. I know its asking too much from this group. Mukuamu would be a life saver if he turned out to be good there.

I like that 5 just in a different order.

Great question......I got nothing.

Prolly still the elephant in the room, IMO.

As long as Kazee or Hooker are healthy we’ll get good play. Even Thompson can do the job.

Last season:
  • Xavier Woods - 988 snaps, 0 sacks , 0 INT, 0 FF, 0 FR, 1 TFL, 1 PBU
  • Donovan Wilson - 673 snaps, 3.5 sacks, 3 FF, 2 FR, 2 INT, 2 TFL, 3 PBU
  • Darian Thompson - 481 snaps, 0 sacks, 1 FF, 1 INT, 1 PBU
I know that a high safety isn't going to create a lot of splash plays but Woods and Thompson gave us almost nothing. I would expect Hooker/Kazee to be big upgrades on defence and I would expect Wright to replace Thompson as a gunner on ST. I'm pencilling Mukuamu in to make the team but I'm not sure if he plays ST, I haven't noticed him to date.

Someone posted a graph on another thread a few days ago showing how the Cowboys have used Mukuamu at FS, SS, Zone Coverage and Special Teams during this training campand preseason. Mukuamu has been very versatile and useful. Based on that, I believe he makes the team. Hard to pass up on a multi-talented rookie Safety who is 6'4", 205 lbs and runs a 4.34 40 yd dash.

Looking at that list sure looks like the best group on paper for a very long time.

We all know though we need to see it on the field for real. Which is also dependent on the front 7 doing their jobs as well.
I posted it several times if they were to sign Hooker, I would feel much better about the S situation.
Of course it goes without mention about health, but doesn’t that apply to the entire team.

it is to much of a cliche….if they stay healthy……we all know that.
Anyway. I feel they have 4 players that can play in any mix and play decent for once.
The rookie can be brought along slow to develop.

This seems to be shaping up well. I still need to see it all for real….that is another Cliche too isn’t it.

Where did you get the information on him running a 4.34 forty? That's blazing even if it isn't in a controlled combine setting.
