Between JJ Wilcox and Jakar Hamilton, I think we have real potential at this position. The trick for these guys will be grasping the mental aspects of the position. But I think the athlecticism is there, and then some.

I agree. It still may be a position of weakness but at least we gave ourselves some options with upside at that position.

I wish they would take this approach with the Oline and Dline.

I don't think safety will be settled this year. They might be prospects but it generally takes some time.

True. I'd like to see one of the aforementioned just seize it immediately and not look back. But there's a lot of x's and o's to playing centerfield.

It would be nice if one of these young guys were so good in training camp and pre-season that they will just not be denied that starting spot.

And for all any of us know, Matt Johnson may be as good or better than both of these guys.

Hopefully at least a couple of them are players!

atleast hamilton is going to have to produce on special teams to even make the roster. i think they both show potential. i think wilcox is football smart enough to get on the field this year in some sub pkg and hopefully next year compete for a starting spot. but for both of them to make the roster one of them is going to have to knock mccray off the roster and thats not as easy as some think. mccray is a very good special teams player and special teams is very important

He was decent prospect for the Georgia Bulldogs who transferred.

Started out at Georgia and was said to be better than Williams and Rambo, bad grades got him kicked out.

I read all the NFC East teams wanted him.

Cowboys Break said that if it werent for all of the off field stuff that the Cowboys would probably have taken Hamilton over Wilcox.

Hamilton looks like a legit Free Safety too and not the in the box type that we always fill our roster with.

I think JJ is far less of a "project" than some on this board claim. I wouldn't be surprised if he started game one.

He may be able to get on the field just because of his ability but he's going to have to be some kind of stud to be ready by even October.

He's going from Georgia Southern to chasing receivers and TE's that move like deer.

He's as raw as it gets.

i think with one year as a safety that would be a stretch. but i do think he will be in some sub pkg and by all accounts he is a fast learner and very football smart. by year two he could be the starter for sure

At this point I don't care who steps up. We haven't had anyone back there worth much since Woody retired IMO.

I agree, I did not think we would be able to sign him after the draft and I fully expected him to be drafted. It will be fun seeing Johnson/Wilcox/Hamilton this camp to see just how good they all can be.

This!! I want a hitter, a head hunter that becomes a household name in North Texas. Someone who will come up to the line and bring the wood with no questions asked. I'm ok with a "roughing penalty" or two to set the tone. One who the opposing backs are looking for when the huddle breaks. Woodson was that type of player and became a defensive leader. We need that type of mentality to shore up a tough and respected defense.

Yeah I just hope he doesn't get thrown in there too soon and labeled as a bust.

You look at a guy like Dewayne Harris. It took him a little time to get used to this level of play and now he has turned into a good player when he gets the ball in his hands.
