We don't have any, Ball isn't laying the wood like he did last season. I believe we should switch Scandrick and Ball, they cover about the same except Scandrick is a hitter. Plus we could use his catch up speed back there. Wade flirted with the "Star" position two years ago and I believe he was on to something. We need a FS that isn't afraid to hit somebody but can still cover..

I didnt even notice Ball yesterday..I thought the front 7 did a fairly good job of containing the run.

Our Ss are non-existent unless the ball is thrown into their area. Sensabaugh flashes every now and then but otherwise these guys are pretty invisible.

There were several plays where the RB's broke through and Ball was in position to come up and just stayed back. I guess I just miss that LB/Safety we used to have help in run support but I don't miss his poor coverage skills..:laugh2:

Can't have everything I suppose..:(

Skins did not do much on the ground a whopping 3.9 a carry? come on.

Most of it came late when the defense was tiring too I believe.

I agree. And yet with the opportunity to pick up a 1st down and run out the clock or at least start forcing Dallas to use up their time outs the defense held up.

They were getting the 1st downs late when they needed them..

yes they did as the line started getting tied and Ware went out of the game. I'm sorry but all in all the defense did not play bad and when the skins had the chance to pick up a 1st to run out the rest of the clock they could not do it which gave Dallas 1 last try with a little less than 2 min and 3 TO

Our safeties stay back in a cover two shell most of the time now. They are being coached to stay deeper than the deepest unless in man-to-man. Sensy often draws the TE in coverage so Ball take an even deeper stance. I wouldn't expect any of this to change anytime soon, especially with two gamblers (albeit good ones) on the corners.

Generally speaking, if your safety is filling in the running game a lot, your front seven aren't getting the job done.

Okay this is nitpicking. The Cowboys dominated the run. And they will continue to dominate when the defensive line shows up. Everyone is losing it. The defensive line played GREAT yesterday against the run as they did all of last year. They got some good runs in. It will happen. But if you're expecting to limit teams to less than 3.9 yards a carry all game and every game? Good luck in fantasy land.

Yet somehow Ball led the team with 6 tackles and a ff.

thats actually not a bad option. Scandrick is definitely physical and Ball would be good cover guy in slot.

Scandrick may be more physical but he is certainly not much better of a tackler.

They gave up 89 yards rushing yards for the whole game. We got gashed a couple of times, but that is going to happen in that Shanahan running game. We have to stay in our gaps and prevent the cutbacks.

I think the front 7 played well, they kept their rush lanes and we gave up only one big McNabb run, that I can recall.

Ball is not the starter cause he can lay wood, he is the starter because of his coverage skills.

The big test will be in a couple of weeks when we go against Chris Johnson. We will see how good our run defense is after that game. Although Portis is no slouch and we handled him well.

Time will tell when we play stronger run teams throughout the season. You need a FS that can hit once in a while and Ball is not that guy, or at least he wasn't on several plays I saw last night and in the preseason. Scandrick lays the wood, it's a no brainer when you think about it because their coverage skills are about the same imo...
