Saints are ready to be 'home' team

Wire Reports

Giants Stadium will have a Bayou flavor Monday night when the New Orleans Saints play their "home" opener against the New York Giants.

Some 600 New Orleans residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina will be flown in by relief agencies; the city's police chief, Eddie Compass, will be involved with former president George Bush in the coin toss; and Saints gold and black will be displayed along the blue stadium walls.

New Orleans native Harry Connick Jr. and Branford Marsalis will perform the national anthem, and New Orleans jazz trumpeter Irvin Mayfield will play America the Beautiful.

Meanwhile, the Saints sold about 50,000 of the 99,000 tickets they're offering for three games in the San Antonio Alamodome on the first day they were made available. The Saints are holding back approximately 32,000 tickets per game so season ticket holders can have first dibs.

And dates have been finalized for four games in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rogue, La.: Oct. 30 (Miami), Nov. 6 (Chicago), Tampa Bay (Dec. 4) and Carolina (Dec. 18).

Briefly

Eagles: Quarterback Donovan McNabb said he plans to play Sunday against San Francisco even though he missed practice Wednesday because of a bruised chest and is listed as questionable.

Commanders: Defensive tackle Brandon Noble, who played four seasons with the Cowboys, will miss Monday's game against Dallas and three to five more weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer said.

Ravens: With starting quarterback Kyle Boller out because of a hyperextended big toe, Baltimore signed Kordell Stewart. Anthony Wright is scheduled to start Sunday against Tennessee.

Broncos: Running back Mike Anderson practiced despite a rib injury, but coach Mike Shanahan said it would be at least Friday before he knew whether Anderson would play Sunday against San Diego.

Falcons: Cornerback Kevin Mathis injured his left knee in practice and will miss at least a week. Team officials fear the injury is serious but are awaiting MRI results.

Seahawks: Defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes, hospitalized last week after suffering from dizziness, plans to be at Sunday's game against Atlanta but will not be calling plays. Linebackers coach John Marshall will call the defense again.

Buccaneers: Kick returner Torrie Cox will be inactive for Sunday's game against Buffalo after his second arrest for driving under the influence in nine months.
