Saints could look to trade Cooks this offseason

If this guy replaced lucky whitehead wow I can only wish the cowboys could trade for him.

Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks has walked a fine line, trying to stay silent amid a diminished role but also wanting to contribute to his team's dynamic offense.

As he told reporters this week, every once in a while you have to speak up for yourself. Cooks added, "Closed mouths don't get fed."

Cooks, the electric former first-rounder, should get fed Sunday against Detroit. Expect an effort from Drew Brees and coach Sean Payton to satiate him -- especially after his no-target, no-catch performance against the Rams.

The offseason might be a different story. Cooks' frustration with his role in the offense led some to wonder if this is the best system for his talents, something the Saints likely will explore in the offseason.

Expect trade talks centered around Cooks leading up to the free-agency window, with the speedster no doubt set to draw interest.

This could be similar to what New Orleans did with Jimmy Graham. There are only so many balls to go around. He's a vertical threat unused in that way, and the Saints might decide he's more valuable in a trade than on their team.

Saw this too.

Interesting.

I think this deep could really use a deep threat to expand the dimensions of the passing game.

I would love to have a guy with his speed opposite of Dez.

A guy like him on the other side of Dez would make it really hard for teams to keep 8 men in the box.

Another guy I wouldn't mind to see the Cowboys looking at is Ted Ginn Jr, he is a FA after this season. I think the Panthers offense was much more dangerous last season with him out there. Plus he is a solid return man.

They don't need a stud opposite Dez, but adding some serious speed would be huge.

Ted Ginn no longer has speed.

He has three catches over 50 yards, one being an 88 TD, and 1 TD being over 40 yards.

I would say, yes, he still has speed.

Ok so the stats say differently the fastest I would put him is TWill at this point in his career

He still is fast. Maybe not as fast as he was when he came out, but IMO still fast for NFL standards. If he could of grown some hands, he could of been a serious deep threat guy. I would pass on him though. Sure we would got at least 10 pages in a game thread hating on him when he drops a wide open pass.

I would like to have Cooks but then the issue how much would it cost to get him?

I guess the nice thing is that he was a first rounder, so we do have a fifth year option, retaining him for at least two years if we were to trade for him.

I don't think you have watched the guy play the last 2 seasons, he has quietly developed into a nice #2 WR. He only has 2 drops in 41 receptions this season. Brice Butler has 2 in 13 receptions, though Williams surprisingly has 0 in 29 receptions. Williams also has 0 long TDs this season, he isn't getting behind the defense and he should be with all the single coverage he is drawing.

OP: Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread just wanted to throw out a cheaper alternative who is a FA

Brandin Cooks isn't working out? Dude is playing good football. Had over 1,000 yards last year, has 700 yards this year and will most likely have 900-1,000 yards again. With how much they spread the ball around in NO, I think Cooks is doing exactly what he needs to.

But hey, if they want to give him up, send him on here.

Michael Thomas in the 2nd round this year would've been nice. But we already had spent our very early 1st rounder on offense, so I get why we grabbed a defender instead.
Hopefully, Jaylon Smith gets well and ends up being stud for us like Thomas will for the Saints.

Those scars of watching him in Miami run deep lol.

I've seen him play these past two seasons, but maybe still jaded at his hands early one.
