SAINTS PLACE GRAMATICA ON IR

As it turns out, the New Orleans Saints haven’t severed ties with kicker Martin Gramatica. Yet.

Gramatica has been placed on injured reserve due to a problem with his groin of the type that widely-advertised medications cannot temporarily heal.

As previously reported, Tyler Mehlhaff has been signed to assume Gramatica’s spot on the roster.

The Saints could try to reach an injury settlement with Gramatica and sever ties with him. The struck such a deal several weeks ago with defensive tackle Hollis Thomas.

Either way, Gramatica’s career with the Saints might have ended with that missed field goal that would have given New Orleans a late lead against the Vikings. He is signed through 2008, and if Mehlhaff can get the job done, Gramatica likely won’t be in the plans for next year.

It didn't hurt him on his 53 yarder in that game.:)

He is a solid kicker. Always has been. The only times he has struggled have been when he was injured.

He is lucky he didn't just get cut after that Denver kick, the blocked kicked that got returned for a touchdown and the miss late in the game. Atleast he didn't injure himself?

He learned from his brother's mistake. I think he is a good kicker, but hate his antics after making a FG. I was glad his stay in Dallas was not that long.
