I'm curious as to how much money we will likely have to spend this year after these developments:

1. The Scandrick restructure.
2. The Romo restructure.
3. The fact that AD is definitely not coming to Dallas now.

The Hardy suspension and Carr contract are still up in the air. But let's assume Hardy misses 4 games and Carr doesn't restructure.

My question is this- how much money do we potentially have free? AD isn't coming now, but is there any other targets are there we could go after with the money we have?

Dallas is roughly 12.5m under the cap right now

OScanrick's restructure only added 100k to the cap. He got a 3m signing bonus that was pro-rated at 600k a year, but his base salary went down from 1.5m to 1m.

BJones still hasn't signed but should be a net 1.5m cap hit.

The team needs to pay Hardy 580k per game. If he is not suspended they need 8m in cap space. If he is suspended 6 games they only need 4.5m. Two games would require 6.8m in space.

That would leave the team with 11m - 6.8m(2 game suspension)= 4.2m

If they cut Carr they gain 8m in cap space. A 4m pay cut would mean 4m in cap space.

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you. So we will be enough under the cap even with no Carr contract change and even with Hardy's pay to get a $5 million or so a year player. That's pretty great.

There is enough space and potential moves to add just about anyone
Assuming Hardy gets 4 games DAL is 5.3m under the cap

They could get 4-8m from Carr
They could get 3m if they restructured Witten
They could get 4-6m if they reached a long term deal with Dez
Various cuts to guys like Bern, Gachkar and others could net 2-3m if needed.

Adam used to post all the info-but he never does anymore. Maybe you can get him to post all the salary info-used to be very detailed.

Ask him, or make an offer he can't refuse.:)

So, could realistically have $15 mil without creating any chaos.

I'd say any move that can improve the team is on the table, depending on what we see in TC.

That is JJ's intention.

They have to keep space allocated for Hardy in case his suspension is reduced.

Once the regular season starts the cap rules change from the offseason rules. This requires at least 2M more and that could increase if any players are on PUP/IR.

Without restructuring contracts or doing something with Carr's contract, they have just barely enough space (If Hardy's suspension is reduced).

That's just fantastic news. If Randle, McFadden and Williams look like they'll be fine, then maybe we can go out and get a good DT. If they dont, maybe we can make a move for a guy like Miller. I'm just glad we will have plenty of room.

Yes, they have the potential flexibility to do something big if they had to

Only if something changes with the Carr or Dez contracts and Hardy remains suspended for a significant number of games.

Haha. My avi and I like what you did there. If Adam doesn't step up, he'll be sleeping with the fishes.

But you're right- back in the day when I used to post way more often, Adam was the king of the cap. I wish he and Hostile were around more often nowadays.

Back in the day Hos and Adam were always posting and of course Vito Corleone was running the boards

Stephen Jones... I mean Adam ain't got time to post in the zone... He's trying to find LBs to play our new 2-7-2 defense..
