Salary Cap Penalties?

I was just wondering does anyone know the penalties for exceeding the nfl salary sap?
Lets take a team like the Washington Commanders who are already 20.72 million over the limit and still have 8 voids in their roster. Even if they chose to release players they would take hits for that putting them over even more.
I was just wondering what exactly would be the ramifications if they were to pick up a big name player like Chad Johnson?
I read somewhere that the league could go as far as taking players from the roster. But then they would have to sign more players just to be able to fill a roster right?
It just seems to me that the Skins have dug themselves into such a deep hole that they will not be climbing out anytime soon. And the kicker is that they didn't even get a championship out of it.
The worst part of it all is that they are in the NFC East and will have to watch the Giants Eagles and Cowboys whip up on them every year on the way to playoffs that Washington won't see for another ten years unless they manage to get extremely lucky with a draft but we all know Snyder doesn't believe in draft picks.
What do you guys see happening to this team? What will the NFL do about their cap? And did Gibbs leave because he knew that everything was going downhill from here?

Dismemberment.

Which is why danny doesn't care. He gave his member to Tom Cruise months ago.

When your roster is dotted with overpaid, underperforming players, it's easy to cut guys and restructure contracts to get under the cap. So don't worry about the Commanders, they can get under pretty easily.

Adam...what did the winners and losers get paid for the Pro-Bowl?

Also, will you list the (again) the monies that are paid for the winners and losers during the playoffs...1st...2nd...and divsion champs and SuperBowl?

You don't have too...but I would like to see it again.

People have been talking about the skins cap "problems" since lil danny took over, yet they always get under and this year won't be any different.

The league voids contracts, beginning with the most recent and working backwards, until you're under.

And you cannot add a new player (ala Chad Johnson), if adding that player would violate the cap. All contracts have to be approved by the NFL ( and comply with the cap) before they are executed.

Agreed!! I can remember vividly the deadline for teams to get under the cap was extended because of the so called "bargaining agreement". The 'Skins were no way going to make that deadline, but 48 extra hours and the cap going up over 100 million for each team helped them out. Tagliabue is gone, but this year will be no different!!

They said the winners got $40K and the losers got $20K during the Pro Bowl broadcast.
