I read that the cap could go up to 230 mill next year. If so with the money we have now rolled over to next year plus the cap going up how much expected cap money would that leave us? Also would it be enough to easily extend Diggs and Cooper?

Extending Diggs and Lamb after this season isn't going to cost the Cowboys much since their extensions wouldn't start until 2024 for Diggs, and 2025 for Lamb. The only money added to next year's cap would be roughly 1/5 of their signing bonus. Any really big cap hits coming from either of the two wouldn't start for a year or two after that.

Dak is a 20M cap hit this year because they keep pushing money forward. I believe they are saving the cap space so that they don't have to do that next year. And if they don't, Dak's cap hit is 50M.

That is a question with a lot of layers to it. Next year is when dak actually gets expensive, but the cowboys have some options to open up cap space in other ways if they choose to.

increased cap space also just means new signings will be more expensive. Agents are thinking in terms of % of the cap when negotiating, that’s why new records are being set year after year.

In the end though the cowboys will have enough cap space to keep anyone they want, it just comes down to how much they want to convert to signing bonuses to pay up front, and how active they want to be in signing other teams players.

Just a few days ago, Dallas was in the hole for 2023 cap space. Now, while they are still near the bottom of the league, they have $31 million in projected space to use.

According to over-the-CAP Dallas is $5.5 million over the CAP in 2023 based on a $225 million CAP number. This is determined by the top 51 salaries on the roster. This does not include any carryover from 2022. Maybe this is why the Cowboys are not using the CAP space they have now to sign players.

As for extending players coming off their rookie deals, I think this depends entirely on the willingness of the players to sign an extension without going into free agency. I don't think Diggs will sign an extension. I have a feeling when his deal is done he will be moving on from Dallas, perhaps to join his brother on another team. If I was an agent for such a player I would advise him to hold off on any news deals. The way contracts are going up, the chances are they will get more money later.

It's a solid opinion. I just don't think Diggs turns down an offer making him the highest paid CB in the league. He'd be nuts to do so. The only question is, will Jerry offer that?

- However, they are not free agents until 2024.

The Cowboys have over 22M this season to roll over to next season.

The 1st year cap hit is generally the lowest on new multiple year contracts.

Zeke is likely gone or takes a pay cut in 2023. It is the 1st season since the big contract that his salary is not guaranteed.

Schultz is unlikely to be Franchised in 2023.
- If he stays, his cap hit on a new contract would be lower than the Franchise Tag that he is on this season.
- If he departs, then Ferguson is on a low cost rookie contract.

Yes I did mean Lamb. Thanks for picking that up and your input. I would Franchise Schultz as well we would have 2 years from now to find a cheaper replacement. Zeke I agree as well cheaper or gone.
