Is there anyone left out there that's any good? Bowman is out of the picture with LVE.

The Witten case is interesting

His original contract called for a 5.7m base salary and 750k in roster bonuses...his cap hit was 6.4m

But he restructured his base salary down to 1m and had a 4.7m signing bonus spread over the next 4 years to help create cap space...... that moved created 3.5m in space this year leaving a cap hit of 2.9m

But with his sudden retirement everything changes.... he is required to pay back that 4.7m signing bonus under the Barry Sanders rule....normally this repayment would be done yearly when he didn't report and stayed retired..... the 1.17m annual repayment would be rebated against the salary cap and offset any Dead Money

But Witten never actually received the 4.7m signing bonus check yet...... that means there is nothing to pay back and the whole thing is wiped off this year's cap.....the 3.5m in Dead Money from 2019-2021 accelerates with this year's 1.17m and gets erased by tearing up the 4.7m bonus check

It leaves the team with a 0m cap hit for 2018 and no future Dead Money
The 2.9m is wiped away and after accounting for the Rule of 51 it means DAL adds 2.35m to it cap space........ leaving them with 17m

Tre Boston is a decent FS and is available. Not sure why we haven’t had interest.

Since Earl Thomas seems
To be out of the question. This would be GREAT.

I would feel good about the defense going into the season.

I was wondering about that, thanks!

No reason to create cap space now since there are no big names to go after.

They should extend Martin and front load his contract so that his cap hit doesnt significantly increase over a few seasons.

I think the money would be best spent on extensions for the guys we love and haven’t yet locked up.

Being 17M under doesn’t mean we should go piss it away on leftover free agents.
