I never even knew the guy was so young, he'll be 23 at the end of April but he's already been in the league two years. Crayton is 29, which makes our top three receivers an average of 32 years old, one of them with a bum knee.

Just a little something to think about for the people that say we don't need a receiver, or that we can plug a later round guy in with no problem.

Time isn't on our side, and with the way FA prices are going, we may have to pay someone 60 mil in a few years with half that guranteed, and not even a guy we want but a guy we need.

But anyway, on point, I think Hurd has some real potential. He could eventually be a #2 guy, and between all of our younger guys, I think he may be the most reliable for that purpose right now.

I really hope Stanback can become something for this very reason.

It is something to be concerned about, which is why if someone like Hardy was available, I'd be all for us drafting him. We are going to need someone in the next couple of years, if not sooner. We better be developing a guy (or trading for one) before we need one.

Good post, I totally agree.

There is something about Hurd that doesnt stand out though. He has great hands but his speed isnt quite where it should be.

But I definitely see him being able to contribute big time down the road.

Hurd had a chance to stand out and did nothing with it. I think he is too small and too slow to be a #2. I think he is just a #4 or #5, which isnt bad because he can at least play in the league. We need to draft a top receiver, stop playing around with the position already.

I think most of us agree that we need some young guys in here at WR. I don't see Hurd as a starting quality WR. Oh, he's good enough to fill in in a pinch. I hope I'm wrong and he breaks out this camp. He could also get cut or traded this year.

Hurd is young enough that working hard in our weight conditioning program could add more strength and bulk which would make him tougher to bring down. However, while he seems to have good hands, I think his ceiling is a #3 at best in the NFL. He just lacks speed & is unable get separation; finding the seam in the defense will help him as it learns more WR techniques, but he's never going to become a #2.

Austin has speed but remains inconsistent; he barely hung on to make the team in 07. This is his 3rd season but he needs to hold on to the ball cause speed means nothing if he can't do that.

Will be interesting to see what Stanbach can do this year. I'm not expecting a lot cause last year would have been essentially spent learning the WR position including how/where to stand on the LOS, route running, anticipating/getting familiar with his QB in practices. So 08 season is essentially his rookie year as a WR; so we will see how much he has learned, how good his hands are & what else he brings to his play as a former QB.

If we were to trade for a Boldin, then let Glenn go.

Let TO walk next year and sign Roy Williams.

That's how you get young, fast.

Unless Hurd takes a quantum leap ahead i feel hes hit his ceiling. Hes got good hands but hes not athletic enough to consistently get seperation and he doesnt have size enough to shield the ball with his body like you would like.

He will play in this league a long time regardless but he just inst a starter.

I see Stanback as a three year project. Last year, he was injured for training camp, etc.... and he basically learned the the position. This year, he will begin to take what he learned and try to apply it in some game situations. The third year being when he has a shot to start to come into his own....

But nonetheless, I am still excited about the player.

We don't need to worry about the WR. We're set.

TG is coming back. Why? Cause he's a Cowboy. When it comes to Cowboys, we defy logic.

TO is also going to be around for the next decade? Why? Cause he's a Cowboy. He has the body of a 17 year old. Heck, he can play until he's 55.

Well, that might be true on April 9th but won't be coming out of preseason.

Why? Do Owens, Crayton, or Glenn have a birthday before the season starts?

Sam Hurd is no turd. I dont see how someone could say he has a ceiling at #3 WR. I thought he made quite a few plays during the season and preseason. He sticks close to TO and Im confident that he will show up for us this year. Sorry for all of you that want our WR's to be TO, Chad Johnson, Boldin, Williams. Get real, seriously. This isnt your fantasy draft.

With TO age shouldnt even matter honestly, look at that guy and tell me hes got 2 years left in this league and will have to throw in the towel, thats insane. And I do believe that Romo had over 4,000pass yards this year to those same ole to old for foootball bum WR's.

I loved Hurd on "Inside The Huddle" and think he'll be a nice #4 or #5 WR for us for at least a few more years. What nobody has brought up is that aside from his contributions as a WR, he is also a very solid Special Teams player.

Will he ever be a good #2 WR for us? Probably not. But he's still talented enough and a hard-enough worker to stick around the league for a little while, which is nothing to be ashamed of at all.

We are not getting Boldin and Williams. Maybe one.

AND

whether you like TO or not... regardless of his age... YOU JUST DONT DUMP THAT PRODUCTION.

And how you get a crappy offense fast! Geez, has T.O. showed ANY signs of slowing down? Why in the hell would ya get rid of him then? Just because he'll be 35? Do you want to get young fast OR stay productive?
