The Texans just cut Montgomery. He has 17 sacks in his last two years at LSU. They drafted him this year in the 3rd round.

With what we're doing I'd say it makes complete sense to look into him.

Apparently he walked into the room but did not partake.

Even if he did, I would still sign him.

He wasn't on our draft board so I doubt we would pick him up considering that the Texans gave up on him this easily.

I think he fits our defense much more than he did the Texans.

They drafted him to play outside linebacker (which is a huge learning curve for a rookie), then they moved him to defensive end in the 3-4, which he is entirely undersized for.

The kid is already in Texas, we have a need, and he could help fill a role. We should absolutely sign him.

I would think that if he were that good he wouldnt have been cut. Especially being so young.
There has to more to it.

I wouldn't. His strength and conditioning coach included him in the list of players that he would not answer questions about, to scouts, since he didn't put in the work. Add in this current situation and you have a pretty immature player. I'm all for risks, but when you take too many, eventually you will get burned, and sometimes 1 guy, can destroy a unit, especially a unit of over achievers.

We have one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the nfl and we have one of the best defensive line coaches in the nfl (if not the best in both).

You bring a guy like this in, and if it doesn't work out, you release him. Not sure where the animosity towards bringing in a player who could potentially be a huge get, comes from.

I just think guys like this, need a bit more humility before the lights come on.

Just my point of view, but it isn't as simple as, cut him if it doesn't work out. He has talent, and it likely will flash if he puts in the work this season. But what happens to guys like Selvie, Haden and Nevis who are over achieving, and they see a guy like Montgomery begin to start loafing? Maybe they don't work as hard, I'm not sure, but I kinda feel Montgomery is a bit too toxic right now.

I'm sorry, but I think that is silly. These are grown men who are focused on their career. Montgomery loafing (assuming he would) wouldn't make other players who are motivated loaf. This isn't a high school or even a college football team.

If you think players don't notice this type of thing, and let it effect them, then you are naive.

I would have agreed at one time but T.O. changed my mind.

I love Deion Sanders, which would likely make many older cowboys fans puke, but he clearly changed the culture around here. Now obviously Montgomery isn't as high profile as either, but I just don't think he's ready to turn the corner, especially if we swoop in and sign him asap.

This was a good reason to avoid drafting him but not to avoid signing him.
Think about it, what could we lose by signing thi guy, nothing. But we could gain so much more.
he is worth a shot, if you want to cut him, then go ahead, it's not going to cot anything.
