Injuries happen, they are practically unavoidable. It's truly disappointing to be excited about a player's career only to have him take several steps backwards as he recovers from injury.
I've learned to soften the disappointment by creating a preseason Dallas Cowboys injury lottery.
I number each player per squad from 1 to 6 and then roll the dice. Each corresponding player is then selected as injured. I roll the dice for O-line, D-line, LB's, etc. I put all RB's and QB's in one squad, offensive backfield. I then toss a coin to determine if the injury is only for a quarter season or the entire season.
You see, this way, I am mentally prepared to lose players and you never know, perhaps the reality won't be as bad as the lottery.
By the way, who is the official backup at center? They might just want to work on that a little more.
