Sam Young: not planning for him as Starter next year

Well if the Dallas Morning News said it, then you can almost be sure Sam Young will compete for the starting RT spot.

How about we wait until TC to decide that? :bang2:

What is the fun of that? Football beat writers need something to talk about even if it is talking out their backside. :laugh2:

It would be a mistake to pencil this guy in as a starter. Hopefully, this just means they will be committed exploring getting a right tackle in here.

Thank goodness Jason hired this guy to set the lineup.........

He didn't hire anyone on this board to set his lineup either, but a heck of a lot of people still tell everyone how it is. Many here have already determined Yound is capable of beint a starting player and that he should have been playing a lot last season. Some have even conjured up the fallacy that he showed ability in the playing time he got this year, when the reality is he wasn't even active for most games and didn't play OT at all. Even preseason he didna't play much because of injury. The fact is, none of us know about Young, but as a 6th round draft pick who hasn't even got any game day NFL experience at OT, it would be a big stretch to assume anything about his ability to start for us.

uh yeah, just as it would be a big stretch to assume he wont. Your doing the exact thing you just spent 10 lines complaining other people do.

I agree. I will say I'm interested to see him this coming pre season and hope he shows he is capable of doing the job and even if Dallas brings in someone else it still becomes important that Young shows he is legit because as we see every year guys get hurt and you have to be able to plug someone in to do the job and not have a big drop off.

Really? You tell me how it's a long shot to assume a 6th rounder going into only his 2nd season after an injury filled 1st season where he got zero playing time won't start? That would be a huge rarity.

Besides, where exactly did you read that I assume he won't start. Where were those words? In fact, I specifically said we don't know about Young. Re-read - those words are there. I merely continued by saying that since we don't know about Young, and he is a late draft pick that didn't get any playing experience this year, we can't assume him to be a starter. The only way there could be a flw in that is if Young had done something to prove the ability to overcome all that and start next year. If that has happened, tell us about it.

Is it really? It's a rarity for a 6th round pick to start. Is it a rarity for a UDFA to start? In this day in age with the Tom Brady's, Tony Romo's and Miles Austin's of the league are we really still discussing this?

Word for word

Are you not assuming based on your logic that it's a "big stretch to assume"

You assumed as you accused me of saying you assumed.

The topic was about Sam Young starting in his 2nd year, and yes, it is a rarity for a 6th rounder who didn't get a lick of playing time in his 1st year to start in his 2nd year. That's not even remotely questionable.

The fact that it may happen at times does not change in the least the fact that it is rare.

The odds are much better that 6th rounder will develop into a starter over time (assuming he even has the ability to begin with), not in year 2 after an injury plagued year one in which he got no playing time.

They're actually split. Rick Gosselin reported that there are 20 teams with Sam Youngs starting at RT.

planning to go into the season with Sam Young as our starter would be plain stupid. for the most part you need to give guys like him a few years to get bigger before even thinking about plaining him every week

True. Clearly I hope he comes in and is ready to compete for the starting role but you can't depend on that being the case.

Oh, that was way back when and before Gosselin had enough time to think about it....as the implied media advantage of quick forward to now would imply. That doesn't mean the context of now. :lmao2: You know, media logic and insights.

well this is not exactly a surprise. However it could be pointed out that the same had been said about Doug Free up to the minute Colombo was injured.

Sure it could be pointed out, but it means nothing. Free had time to develop, and was a higher draft pick and better prospect from the beginning.
