As the last game of the season approaches a few things are very evident; we are eliminated from the playoffs, the entire coaching staff has expired contracts, Jerry and Stephen are the head of the dysfunction in Dallas and we are still the most valuable team in the NFL, even though we are the laughing stock of the league. The reality is as long as we are in the forefront of the most valuable list, nothing is going to change. Because Jerry and Stephen are more invested in the business aspect than they are the product they put on the field.
The Commanders finally got it right, as much as I hate to see it. They addressed fixed the dysfunction at the owner level and front office level and changed the culture. Then they hired good football coaches to coach and gave them resources, made moves for them to succeed and got out the way in the process. And you see the rewards.
Or look at the Lions- been the laughing stock of the league for a min but finally said we are going to take a chance on this one coach, who was criticized when he was an interim head coach for his intensity and actions and we are going to give him a chance to see if he can change this culture. He had a solid staff but had to make some changes and had to give opportunity to some unproven coaches but they all brought into his vision and culture change and they found players who echoed the same energy, every week they have been laughing at the league. More injuries than any team in the league at one point still 14-2.
Morale of the story- expect the same dysfunction moving forward bc no matter how good McClay and his staff are, Jerry and Stephen are the real issue. As long as they are there, its going to be dysfunctional bc they enjoy having the most profitable team in the NFL and being in front of the camera, acting like they are real football guys. They have all the means to hire all the football guys needed to win but they wont bc that means that they cant continue being dysfunctional and feeding their ego. They have a clean coaching slate with the opportunity to rectify the coaching issue either way they think it would benefit- they can resign MM and address the staff and move forward (which they could have done last year to now), then give them the resources they need to compete which isn't hard, they can access 100m in cap space, they have 10 picks, its not too hard to make this team better than what they are now or they can find a new staff and again give them the resources so they can implement their philosophy and compete but they wont bc they cant stay out way. So as Black Monday comes I expect the same ole circus lead by the ring leaders.
