Remember the Got Milk? ads? Great marketing concept. So great that everywhere you go, it's
Got Junk?
Got Mulch?
Got Gravel?
Got Wood?

Etc., etc., etc.........Got any original ideas?

It's not just advertising though. Coming to a television near you, or already come and gone:
Hawaii Five-O
Roseanne (already cancelled, but the concept fits my narrative)
Murphy Brown
Magnum P.I.
The Odd Couple (cancelled, due to lack of interest)

Etc., etc., etc.

........and I won't even get into movie reboots, and video games turned film features.

Are we, as a country so lacking in imagination, that we have to recycle every single success, because we can't come up with an original concept? Why do you think this is? Is it the internet that's to blame? Copy and Paste everything you find funny, and before long, people think it's you that's funny. Is this how the ad execs, TV producers, and film companies are going to do things from now on?

It's not new, but it seems like they're recycling things they shouldn't be recycling. Psycho immediately comes to mind.
Well that is true. Maybe they think a new generation will like it too? Sometimes I prefer the remake over the original and vice versa. I like the Cape Fear with DeNiro better than the original with Gregory Peck for instance and I prefer the original Battlestar Gallactica vs the 2004 TV version.

Movies like Cape Fear I don't mind so much, being decades after the original, but something like Battlestar could've been done under a completely different name and story, with just a few tweaks.

This is what my fledgling outfit is trying to impress upon others, in positions that matter.
But it always goes back to the same thing: Easy Money.
You have a fresh idea that might make a grip? Cool... That's a risk.
You have an idea with an already established fan-base and some guaranteed dollars? Higher priority...
Especially if it was written by a producer's brother, or some guy that has made marginal work, but has done it for years and hasn't lost money yet...

This business is not for artists.
It's for money-making.

And that's the part that seems to be getting more prevalent. I think one exception is in animated movies. They seem to find original ideas, but then, animation is all about imagination, isn't it?

I could go on and on about how the movie industry has gotten to the point it is at, but that won't make me any friends.
Just know that we all should be fully aware of why a movie is released: TO MAKE MONEY for producers.

That's why it's called asking for an investment, when asking for funding to make a film.
Avengers? Not one single producer gives a shizznice about the plot. They care not. The check is written.
Other projects? Producers first ask - do I know them? Yes? What did they do? Made money? Then I will read the first 10 pages.
Wait... Spielberg wants on? No need to read a damn thing. Get me my pen...
