Sarkisian selling Golden

I just can't see this team going for a 5'11 receiver in the first round. The 40 is awesome and you could argue that the sky is the limit for him. He's a good route runner, reliable hands, good at contested catches. By all accounts, he's got great character and was their clutch player.

But this team loves length. Off the top of my head, I want to say that all our recent WR draft picks are over 6'1. I just don't see it happening.

I want to say the last receiver drafted under 6'0 was Dwayne Harris in 2011. In the 6th round.

Edit, overlooked Ryan Switzer in 2017. Forgot about him in general here.

To me, heck yes.

With his skillset, and in that scheme, why didn't Golden go for 1500 yards?!
its all on Ewers, dude has a mediocre arm.the number of times Golden had his guy beat deep and literally had to stop in his tracks for the ball to arrive is numerous.

Ewers was definitely part of the problem. My issue with that argument though is most of the other top receivers also had pretty bad QB play and produced more (exception being Burden).

I like Golden but I wouldn't draft him at 12 and I still think Isiah Bond will have the better career. Bond was the hopeful #1 going into the 2024 season at Texas. He missed a couple of games with injuries and Ewers just simply didn't throw the ball to him very much. I think he's a better route runner than Golden and better with the ball in his hands. Golden is a little tougher and better at contested catches. I'd be thrilled with either in the 2nd round but not at 12.
Bond runs like you expect Golden to run following his 40. Totally looks faster, quicker, more dynamic.

now he’s a top 12 pick? No.
Who's saying top 12? I think the issue is if you are the Cowboys and he's your guy and you are there at 12 but can't find a trade down partner, what do you do?
* to me, that depends on your grade
* if your grade is only a few spots down
* if your grade is at the bottom of the round

We shouldn’t have “a guy” at top. We should have a board we build and stick to it and take the best player available.

Honing in on WR only at 12 is not smart drafting. If Tet is gone there isn’t a player in the class that warrants the selection.

take the best player available.
Oh please........I can pull up plenty of your posts targeting certain players you would take at 12, but now you're going BPA?
Every team has a short list of players they believe will be available at their draft slot based on their board/grading.

Right.

Golden is a nice player. Not worth 12 when you have so many other tier 2 WRs to choose from.

It would be blowing a 1st round pick. Doesn't make sense at 12. I don't think it happens
Production will determine if he was worth where he is picked, not your prediction on his ceiling or contribution...

showing up in the playoffs and running a sub 4.3 is supposed to catapult a player higher in the draft....
Sure, he had a nice finish to the year. But in the top 12 do we want a half season wonder?

I don’t.

There was a guy on Twitter that broke it down and he didn’t actually run a 4.29, was a 4.37

Either way, if we don’t leave the 1st round with a WR it would be a monumental fail

Don’t care who it is, Tet, Golden, Egbuka, Burden. Just draft one. We have 1 NFL quality receiver

Sub 4.3 speed is an elite quality, he doesn't have to be a star, but with that kind of speed and respectable hands, his impact would stretch beyond his catches.
There are a handful of other 4.3 WRs in the class. Why not consider them at 12 then?

If those WRs went on a heater in the Playoffs like Golden did, by all means, consider them.

4.29 was clocked at the combine, wasn't it?

Once you have a WR tapping 4.29 and a resume playing at UT horns in the competittive SEC conference, I think you'll be having a receiver drafted in the mid to late first round.

- Maybe some NFL teams will envision Golden can do for them what Xavier Worthy did for the Chiefs.

- I myself have puzzling questions why Golden wasn't a Dalllas/30 visitor.
But could this be a don't tip your card hand move?

- I heard cowboys did not invite Ceedee Lamb on a 30 visit becuz they didn't think they'd have a sure fire chance of drafting him, could same hold true for Golden ?
