I have an older clarion dual din sat radio in my 06 dodge magnum. it's been fine for years but one oddness about it, as I drove from my house down a back side street in my neighborhood, every time I passed behind a golden corral it would cut out for a second, maybe 2. it was about as close to clockwork as you can imagine.

but it only did it there and there were power lines nearby so I wondered if that was causing it and moved along with my life, freaking people out when we'd drive by and I'd tell them the radio was about to cut out. now, it's doing it in more and more spots and almost as repeatable.

1) golden corral - other than power lines, nothing else to block the signal. it also stopped cutting out and now does it every once in awhile
2) driving home from work - 1 time getting onto the access road to the toll road, it will cut out here. then, on an overpass merging onto I-35 in N. Dallas, there is a stretch about 50+ yards from some power lines where it will cut out and since I'm not moving fast, it will last to a given distance. when I am moving fast, the cut-out is shorter in duration, which would seem to indicate something consistent in that area making the stereo cut out.

now, it's at least 3+ years old and I can't recall the stereo ever cutting out in these places before. the I-35 merge I'd do all the time but only in the last 2+ months has it been cutting out so consistently and so often.

looking at a pioneer now that's $300 w/o navigation but since that's in our phones now, who cares? also looking at some that are simply a droid device in my car. those look pretty cool.

anyone have sat radio and does it cut out? my antenna is on my dashboard, center by the windshield but again, worked fine for years and lately, cutting out.

I have a stock Sirius in my car. There are a few places in town where the signals cuts out every time I drive by. I just assumed there was top secret clandestine operations going on in these places and they utilize some sort of blocking device that covers the area. It is just disguised as an IHOP in one spot.

You need line of sight to the satellite. Anything blocking the sky can cause it to cutting out.

that would be great if there was something blocking it. under bridges, I get. in tunnels, I get. driving down an onramp with nothing over me and it cuts out, I don't get.
