Saturday AM Practice Notes

Smoaky, is going to try to get some interviews, so check out his site,
www.smoaky.com/cowboys

(August 1st-10:48am)1st Aug, 2009Playing a little catch-up this morning after a wireless connection problem.

Here we go after the normal start of exercises and position drills.

11-on-11 running drills:

Romo with 2-TE’s, Marion Barber left guard with Igor Olshansky in the backfield very quickly.

Romo at QB, Marion Barber on the counter-trey right, nice gain.

Kitna under center, Felix Jones with 2-TE’s, Witten the H-Back, big gain right side bounces outside would’ve possibly scored.

Kitna under center, Felix Jones, 2-TE’s, not much there, Bobby Carpenter makes stop.

False Start on Doug Free, penalty.

Jason Hatcher blows up a play in the backfield to Tashard Choice.

Tashard Choice right guard not much, Steve Octavien and Carpenter there for a short gain.

Alonzo Coleman right side, nice gain of 6-8 yards.

Stephen McGee at QB, Alonzo Coleman on the flip to the left side, Alan Ball gets the stop 10-yards downfield.

Romo under center, Felix Jones right side, nice hole, 8-10 yards.

Kitna at QB, 2-TE’s, counter-trey to Felix Jones and that plays seems to always have a lot of room to run, and he goes down the right sideline.

Tashard Choice counter right side, another nice gain, knocked down by Bobby Carpenter.

Maybe it’s me, but Carpenter is a little feisty this morning. Just found out it was his 26th birthday.

End of that segment of practice….

More 11-on-11, maybe a combination of running and passing:

Romo shotgun, delay to Barber up the middle, Bradie James there pretty quickly, 3-4 yards.

Remember now, no tackling to the ground so yardage can be deceiving.

Romo shotgun, Barber to his left, check off to left flat for Barber short yardage.

Romo shotgun, Crayton motion right, nice underneath pass to Bennett for 8-10 yards.

Romo shotgun, 3-WR’s, pressure up the middle from Steve Octavien, would’ve been a sack, Romo scrambles up the middle.

Romo shotgun, Felix Jones gets a short dump pass underneath…LB or two around him.

Romo under center, cluster of receivers stacked on right side, hand off to Felix Jones left side, nice hole would’ve been a nice gain.

Kitna in at QB, under center, Austin motion left, 5-step drop finds Bennett underneath on left side. Bennett was lined up in the backfield with Choice.

Kitna shotgun, tosses in right flat to Bennett, Carpenter there to make play 5-yards down field.

Kitna under center, Carpenter with press from right side, Kitna throws a wobbly incomplete pass to Mike Jefferson on left sideline, Mike Mickens got his hands on the ball but it fell to the ground.

Kitna under center, Hurd motion left side, Alonzo Coleman left side, Anthony Spencer was there to make play immediately, Coleman kept running and Mike Jenkins tossed him to the ground a few words exchanged.

McGee shotgun, pressured and flips out to Keon Lattimore, Jay Ratliff shuts it down for 1-2 yards.

McGee shotgun, Hannah motion left side, McGee throws a duck to the left sideline for Kevin Ogletree who caught it well out of bounds.

Romo back in…

Romo shotgun, draw right side to Barber, Brandon Williams was there immediately—no gain.

Romo shotgun, no one open, would’ve been a sack and he tosses ball to the ground in disgust.

Romo shotgun, finds his favorite teammate underneath for 10-yards.

Romo with more time and nice throw in the deep middle seam to Miles Austin who spun away and run into the end zone.

Kitna shotgun, crossing pattern to Mike Jefferson who’d beaten Mike Mickens to the right sideline.

Kitna shotgun, directing traffic, steps up and just misses Patrick Crayton on crossing pattern, Alan Ball in coverage.

End of this segment…more to come.

Okay, more 11-on-11

Romo quick hitch to Roy Williams, throws it in the dirt, incomplete pass, some fans a little uneasy with that start.

Romo under center, Barber counter right side, Terence Newman meets him at the line of scrimmage.

Romo under center, immediate pressure, steps up and throws incomplete pass towards Roy Williams, Mike Jenkins and Ken Hamlin in coverage, Hamlin got a finger tip on the ball but fell to ground.

Romo under center, bobbles snap but gets it to Felix Jones who faked a LB out of his jock and went almost untouched up the middle.

Romo 5-step drop, nice throw to Miles Austin who makes a catch for 15-yards, Courtney Brown had nice coverage.

Romo shotgun, delay middle to Felix Jones, another nice hole for good yardage.

Kitna throws left side for Gilmer’s Manuel Johnson for 3-4 yards.

Kitna middle slant for Mike Jefferson who dropped it—with the #81 jersey made me think of T.O….okay, that was my token T.O. remark for the day. Still interesting just seeing the #81 jersey.

Kitna hand off left side to Alonzo Coleman, not much there.

Kitna under center, bootleg left and hits Martellus Bennett for a 10-12 yard gain on the left side.

Stephen McGee rolls right and throws back left to “Fourth-and-Long’s” Jesse Holley for a short gain.

McGee under center, hand off to Lattimore who is wrapped up immediately by NT Derreck Robinson.

Romo back in at QB

Romo under center, Barber one-back, wanted to go deep to Crayton right side, nice coverage from T. Newman, flips it out to Barber.

Romo under center, Deon Anderson in motion and stops in front of Barber, Romo tries a quick pass to Roy Williams and it’s batted down by Jay Ratliff, incomplete pass.

Romo shotgun, confusion on Crayton’s alignment on the right side, they’ll reset for another play.

Romo shotgun, same formation with Crayton closer to right tackle, Romo finds Crayton alone on the right sideline…blown coverage I think from Anthony Spencer.

Romo under center, Felix Jones 1-Back, looks right, goes back underneath left for Witten who might have been able to score. Ball was snap from around the opponents 20-yard line.

Romo under center, Witten split wide right, play-action, nice throw to a wide-open Miles Austin at around the 5-yard line.

Romo under center from the 14-yard line, Barber left side, tough run, crowd likes it…and they faked the reverse after the hand off to Barber.

They move the ball back to the defense’s 34-yard line.

Kitna at QB, pressure coming right side from Carpenter, Kitna fires over the head of Sam Hurd on right sideline.

Tashard Choice bounces outside left for short gain, Carpenter in the vicinity.

Kitna under center, 5-step drop, finds ROY WILLIAMS for what would’ve been a touchdown in right seam. Crowd applauds.

Kitna to Alonzo Coleman up the middle, wrapped up quickly by LB Matt Stewart.

Rudy Carpenter at QB, rolls right and hits Kevin Ogletree on right sideline for 8-10 yards.

Carpenter again, fake double-reverse—play doesn’t work and throws ball into the stands.

Horn sounds, might be the end of practice.

I’ll try and get a few audio clips.

Stay tuned.

it would be nice if Carpenter translates it to the regular season

it would also be nice to field 3 1st rounders at LB

Jenkins was all over the place in the running game making "tackles". I thnk maybe he has a chip on his shoulder due to the "incident".
