I'd prefer some continuity. No sense in waiting until Week 5 to see if he can outplay Bernadeau. I'd rather go with Bern from Week 1 than Waters from Week 5. Of course, it would be great to have some depth on the OL, but when you sign a guy like Waters, you have to start him, no matter how he plays.

I'll take my chances.

I can't believe I am saying this but I agree 100%. Bernardo played way better than i thought he was even capable of. I dont think we could justify a high priced vet guy anymore.

IMO, in his short stay, Waters made a big difference on this OL...the youngens especially benefitted from his tutelage, and I think for one more season, they should grab him up...start talks now and agree to let him come in with 2 weeks to go (not to play in the pre-season, but to prepare)

I agree. I wouldn't mind drafting some depth on the OL to potentially start in the future. I'd prefer that the first 2 rounds be devoted strictly to DL, but I wouldn't mind bringing in a RT and RG later in the draft. They don't have to beat out Free and Bern this year, but maybe in a year or two. But I wouldn't want to spend money on a veteran, even if he's cheap, when we have so many other positions that could use that free agent money. But I stand by drafting a RT and RG in the 3rd round or later. I don't expect to see any more 1st rounders go to the OL. People have to realize most draft picks only spend 4 years on the roster and there are 22 starting positions. We can't get our entire starting OL in the 1st round.

If he wants to come back I don't see any reason to not give him a look. At the very least it improves our depth on the O-line, and there were plenty of reports about how he was a legit mentor to the youngsters. I'll take that any day.

But with the very little money we have and the very many needs we have on defense, is it worth it?

The salary cap implications will definitely be a factor, so we'll have to see how that piece plays out. But I don't think his one year deal this past season was anything ridiculous (I think it was like 1.7 million?).

Now, If signing him will keep us from improving other areas, then I'd be against it. But I don't think we're far enough along in the offseason to really know, and if Waters does sign you know it won't be until like Labor Day anyway. So it'll be awhile, and would be well past when all of our other offseason signings would be done anyway.

Water EVEN in the limited play he did..

the other OL guys liked him and the OL was very improved.

I saw him make a couple of pancake blocks on some dudes..

..and it was like a man amongst boys.
