Would most of you regret telling Jones to released Ware. Yeah he 31 going on 32 and had an injury but think about this:

Ware became a leader on the defense front while with the Cowboys. He may the lowest sacks in his carrer but I think Ware would had bounce back and become a huge help to that defense that badly need a DE like him. There never going to be another Cowboy like for a long time. Think about it Ware has done numerous thing as a Cowboy. There is no way people are going to see him as [Insert Team Name] unless he does great there like he did in Dallas. He will be always seen as a Dallas Cowboy.

Say Ware goes to another team and that teams make it to the playoffs heck even to the championship game and he was a big help to that team getting there. Won't you start to regret the choice Jerry made in letting him go and supporting the choice? Ware may come back but I don't think it will happen.

Ware would need to have an absolutely amazing season to be worth what the Cowboys would have had to pay him this year in base salary... $12 mil.

And he was owed an even larger base salary in 2015.

Good or bad, his performance won't register much with me.

If he does, good for him. This team needs to go in a totally different direction if we're ever going to be anything but average-bad. Getting rid of the old garb is a good start.

I expect Ware to be good next year if he stays healthy. Especially if he goes back to the 3-4.

With that said Dallas made the right move. He doesn't single handedly make or break this team even if he is the D.Ware of 3 or 4 years ago.

We need a lot more than him.

Don't kid yourself. The first time he gets a sack there will be an uproar. These guys are up in arms about everything. Keep him or let him go it did not matter, they will over react every single time.

No, this is the right decision. You make decisions like this based on expected outcomes. Any historical evidence suggests his productivity will decline. Maybe not from last year but certainly from his peak. If he has a 15+ sack season it would be a huge outlier in terms of probability.

This is like asking "if you double down on 11 at the Blackjack table and get a 3, do you regret it?" No, you have to make that decision every time. What happens after is really not important.

I am a big believer in the notion that you rarely regret getting off an older player a year too soon, but you quite often rue holding on too long.

If DeMarcus goes ham for 15 sacks in 2014, so be it. In fact, I hope he gets paid and lives up to his previous billing. Great for him! This move to release him was something I hope the club would consider if they were 30 million under the cap.

Their position relative to the cap isn't as significant as knowing when to cut ties with an aging vet; understanding the dynamics with the latter would certainly help gaining a grip on the former.

This would be a fine decision if we knew how to replace him. We'll see how they draft. As for D-Ware, I wish him nothing but the best.

....and if his arm starts dangling after the fifth game of the season and he disappears into the NFL abyss will you regret creating this thread?

He has to get 14 plus sacks for this to be a bad move. He won't.

I don't even care if he had 14 sacks next season, this defense needed a culture change and Ware, while I love him, never had the demeanor I wanted in our defensive leader.

Besides, his body has broken down. He's on his way out.

Ware isn't here anymore because Jerry used his contract as a piggy bank, there wasn't much anybody could do about it.

Regardless of what he does this year cutting him was the right move going forward. Now if only we could get rid of the rest of the holdovers

Nah. It's not like the guy is 25 on the upswing of his career and we missed him by being slightly cheap with his contract. Ware is starting to get injured more and more often and his production is going down while his salary is shooting up. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a couple more really nice seasons, but this had to be done for the long-term health of the team.

Say he has an injury plagued season and has to retire after next season?

What exactly have we won with Demarcus Ware?
