Say we tank, what does your draft look like?

What is your plan for next season? What does your draft look like?

While we have needs on offense, like a true #2 WR, a bellcow RB and a new RT, I think we basically need to go all defense again.

Let's look at who we are likely to get rid of, at least if we are serious about moving forward. Starting on offense, right now the biggest weakness is at RT. Yes, we don't have a QB, RB or WR of the future, but we still have Romo and are going to run him into the ground. So we might as well go for that last piece of the OL...we will be young across the board. With our current roster, I/R and PS, here is what I think happens.

QB - Romo, Cassel, Weeden, Moore, Showers
RB - McFadden, Michael, Smith, Williams, Dunbar
FB - Clutts
WR - Bryant, Williams, Beasley, Street, Butler, Whitehead, Smith
TE - Witten, Escobar, Hanna, Swaim
OT - Smith, Free, Brown, Green, Weems, Wetzel
OG - Martin, Collins, Leary, Bernadeau
C - Frederick
LS - La ******
K - Bailey

DE - Hardy, Lawrence, Gregory, Mincey, Edwards, Crawford
DT - Hayden, Crawford, Irving, Russell, WHaley, McClain, Walker
LB - Lee, McClain, Hitchens, Wilbur, Gachkar, Wilson, Nzeocha, Smith, Eubanks
CB - Scandrick, Claiborne, Carr, Patmon, White, Olatoye
S - Jones, Church, WIlcox, Heath, McCray
P - Jones

Guys in green will be back, guys in yellow are probably back due to being young or cheap, red are goners. Not saying all the guys in green and yellow make the final 53, just that they will be in camp. The one guy in black is Hardy. I don't know who else will be available in free agency, but if there is someone with good production I would rather use our money there and get rid of the drama. If no one available, then look to resign him.

On offense, almost the entire starting group will be back, with the exception of Free and Clutts if it were up to me. I am pretty sure Leary is a RFA so I think they keep him relatively cheaply. We could resign Berny to a cheap deal to keep him as swing interior guy. I would pencil in Green as starter at RT so the only high priority on offense would be a RB. I know people say QB of the future, but there really isn't one worth a high pick this year so we probably just roll with what we have.

Defense is where we have to make the improvements. I can't see Hayden, Wilbur or R McClain being resigned. Carr needs to be cut and Lee is not worth what we are paying when he can't stay on the field and even when he is on the field his play has been average except for one game. Mincey could be a cheap resign possibly, especially if Hardy isn't back. Claiborne likely gets resigned to a decent deal. We could have new starters at DE, DT and every LB position. With Jones staying at safety, I think we have less of a need there. CB will be solid if Claiborne is resigned and Scandrick is back along with White and Patmon. Not great but not awful.

With potential high draft pick I think I go defense almost all the way, with a RB and maybe another OL in the mix.

The team won't tank. It wouldn't make sense for players to mail it in so the team drafts a high caliber player who may replace them on day one.

I hope we just get BPA every round.

I'd love for a guy like Reuben Randle or Alshon Jeffrey to be the #2 to Bryant.

But I agree, that defense should be a focus in the draft and free agency. We could upgrade all 3 LB positions for example if we feel Lee is just too big an injury risk. I suspect we'll fall in the 12-16 range in draft. Would love for Jaylon Smith to fall to us in that range.

DT also needs a major upgrade IMO.

Like Laufenberg said, maybe it's just that the talent isn't that good. We don't necessarily have to try to lose....we just might not be good enough to win.

If we don't resign Hardy, DE is a huge need. DT has been a need for years and we don't do anything but keep trotting out Nick Hayden.

My priority list goes in this order.

1. A real NFL offensive scheme.

Then everything else is draft.

1. QB

2. DT

3. FS

4. A playmaker somewhere on offense be it WR or RB.

Dont you think Jones is the FS? Or at least the second starting S? I just don't see us going QB...not a great draft for them anyway.

As long as Marinelli is here, Hayden "The Golden Cock" will be on this team. Marinelli loves the guy and his weekly
film grades show it.

I wouldn't tank.

But I do find it funny that the jets won their last game last year and it cost them Mariotta.

Just don't draft a quarterback unless you get one you truly believe will be the rare exception.

They bust at an alarming rate. About 98 percent.

And that is why I would tank when it's time to tank.

Now is not the time.

Every game is winnable when Romo returns and the NYG's haven't dove into the difficult part of their schedule.

Agreed. Then and only then.

I hope the giants dont "find their way" down the stretch.

Jerry says Romo can play 5-6 more years. Romo says he thinks he is the best he has ever been right now(well, before the broken collarbone). I just don't see any scenario where there is a new starting QB in Dallas for at least 2 years.

the time to start tanking was before the trade deadline. Unload a few guys we knew wouldnt be back, yet had some value for teams making a run this year. Get whatever draft picks we could get. It would've done 3 things

1. helped insure that we lost games by not having the talent on the field
2. got us a few extra picks
3. created playing time for any young guys you wanted to see if they had a future.

we are not going to tank.
professional teams do not tank for draft picks.
i would *never* want to instill an "it's ok to lose" mentality on a team that can barely find a way to win.

play madden. tank all you want. get into every mock draft around and bounce your jimmy off the walls in glee.

but please, stop pretending the cowboys are going to tank for a better pick.
