Cowboys nickel back Orlando Scandrick is out 4-8 weeks after shattering his left index finger during OTA practices.
While he should be healthy sometime around the start of training camp, this gives Cletis Gordon and rookie Jamar Wall a chance to step up. Scandrick was Dallas' weakest defensive back last year, including Ken Hamlin, and intercepted just one pass in 640 snaps. He shouldn't be guaranteed the nickel job.

shattered finger? WTH? How on earth did that happen?

Well, ****. CB is one position where the depth drops off dramatically after you get past the every-game contributors.

Probably got caught in a facemask or something, at least that's what happened to me in H.S. If it's similar, they'll just go in and reattach everything with plates and screws and he'll be ready to go in a couple of months. I can almost guarantee that he'll be favoring the finger after he's cleared to practice though, so hopefully that doesn't affect his play at all.

Better now that in 2 months. It it was regular season, he probably would be playing. I readily admit to having no idea if you can cast the finger and be effective like Sensabaugh did last year.

This guy gets paid to cover the Cowboys?

Cupcake OTAs...

But whose commentary is that about him being weaker than Ken Hamlin and that he shouldn't be guaranteed the nickel job? KFFL's?

That is funny he had a rough patch at one point in the Giants game it was wrapping up and allowed to many rac yards not a coverage issue. The other he struggled for about two games then he turned it back on yes he only had 1 int but overall he played solid last year and the year before :bang2::bang2::bang2:

Dude is a good player and should get better with another year

I hate writers that have never watched a game

I'm sure Scandrick is quaking in his boots over Wall and Cletis....
The Dallas/FW media are idiots.
Scandrick made more plays last year then Hamlin did...he shouldn't be guaranteed the nickel job??? This is so dumb...I give up!

Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick shattered his left index finger during the team's organized team activities on Tuesday. He had surgery the same day and will be out 4-8 weeks.

Scandrick hopes to be back by the start of training camp.

He broke the finger trying to break up a pass at OTAs. A pin was put into the finger on Tuesday that will be taken out in four weeks.

I honestly don't know. I just saw it on the front page of rotoworld.com

I like McCann's chances over either Gordon or Wall. Wall is better suited for the FS spot in Wade's D scheme, man coverage is not his strong suit.

Agree.
I think we go into this season with.
Newman
Jenkins
Scandrick
McCann as our cb's on the 53. Wall is going to practice squad-IMO.
I think we keep more safeties than cornerbacks on the 53.
Early predictions on safety...
Sensenbaugh
Ball
Hamlin
AOA
Church
Watkins make it. Watkins makes it because the team considers him the best sp teams player on the team. Church show more promise than the other cb who were not mentioned above.
You also have to remember that Ball and possibly AOA can play some cb in a pinch also, so not having a 5th cb on the roster is not as big a deal as some worry warts would think.
