It is my understanding that Scandrick's suspension will cost him one fourth of his total salary for the year and possibly require him to refund a portion of his signing bonus. Is he actually required to repay part of his signing bonus?

Does anyone know exactly how much cap relief we will get back due to his suspension?

1 mill of his salary is what he misses. I doubt that we try to get back his SB.

It depends on if the Cowboys go after Scandrick's signing bonus (I think most teams let it go if it's a small amount and the player is still with the team) which means Scandrick will lose about $180K during his suspension. So expect the cap to get a small $180K uptick when the season starts...

He got a 10M signing bonus on a 6 year contract. There are 17 pay periods in the season. That's 102 pay periods for 6 years.
10M / 102 = 98K per game prorated portion of signing bonus

I don't know if they will take it back, but all they have to do is subtract it from his pay when he returns. He wouldn't have to actually write them a check like would have been the case if Orton had retired.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Scandrick failed a drug test in April and appealed its findings. The league rendered its decision Monday. He will lose approximately $1 million through four missed game checks and a signing bonus repayment.

So I'm assuming yes he does have to give back his signing bonus. At least part of it.
