CZ needs a method to put a dunce hat on some people's Avatar. Can all the people that called Vander Esch the new Bobbie Carpenter please raise your hand.

Garrett should have know that players would be tempted to get in the Salvation Army bucket. He should have specifically warned them not to do it. It's great that Zeke was excited but it turned out to be a costly penalty.

The play where DLaw got the INT was not just luck. It was an example of a smart player. He appeared to know what type of play they were going to run and once the RT tried to cut block him, he knew they were trying to throw over him.

Fleming was a good free agent signing. A backup will never be perfect but he held his own well enough for the win. He is big and gets good push in the run game.

If Tyron's issue is his neck, why did he have on the massive arm brace?

Connor Williams played 1 snap at LT because Fleming's shoe came off.

Something changed with the team right before the 3 game winning streak. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what happened but some things definitely seem different including passing on 1st down and the players on offense seem more focused with less dumb mistakes.

The play where Dak made the pass while a defender was wrapped around his legs was impressive. As Aikman tried to say, many QBs can't make that play.

Dak's scramble for a TD was also impressive.

They still call some slow developing plays at the wrong time and Dak needs to find a way to avoid some of the sacks deep in the backfield. The trade-off is that he makes the plays like the scramble for a TD and the pass while the defender is wrapped around his legs.

They had a Guard pulling on the 4th down play that failed. That seems like an odd call for 4th and short.

Zeke is faster than earlier in the season. I think he is playing at a lower weight.

The team seems to have consciously worked with Zeke to come off the field when he needs a breather in exchange for going 110% while he is on the field. His focus, energy level and speed/quickness all look dramatically better in recent games as compared to early in the season but I also notice him taking himself out of the game more often.

The "go 110% but take a breather when needed" concept is the foundation of Marinelli's DLine rotation. They seem to have applied that to Zeke now.

They also seem to take a similar approach with Amari Cooper. He comes off the field on many run plays; although, he is a very good blocker when he is involved in run plays.

I said it when I reviewed Raider's game footage after the Cooper trade, but I'll repeat that he has a freakish ability to change direction and his route running is fun to watch even on plays where the ball does not go to him. Cooper is a better fit in this scheme than some other elite WRs.

The Cowboys are playing 3 LBs much more than in the past. They played 3 LBs against 3 WR sets at times. They rarely ever play Dime. In one of the past 3 games both Vander Esch and Jaylon played 100% of the snaps. In the past they had a significant number of snaps where Lee was the only LB on the field.

If Lee does return, it would be interesting to see Jaylon at SLB. Somebody mentioned putting Vander Esch at SLB but it's actually Jaylon that is playing Lee's WLB spot. Wilson is having his best season but there is a big talent gap between him and Jaylon or Vander Esch.

I've seen 3 or 4 times in the past few games where CB Brown pushed an OL backwards and he blew-up a RB when he blitzed. I don't know if he is just a master of leverage or if he has super human strength, but a CB pushing an OL backwards just seems to defy physics.

It's too bad for CB Lewis that he does not get to play more snaps. I agree with playing Brown who is bigger and faster; however, in many past seasons Lewis would have been the #2 CB and some years (See Dave Campo as Head Coach) he would have been the #1 CB on the team.

I wonder about Lewis at FS. He is an excellent tackler as a CB. Kris Richard does not seem to have the same size requirements at FS as at CB (Earl Thomas 5-10, 208). Lewis is 5-10, 195.

Awuzie gives up some catches and can't catch the ball but overall he is a very solid #2 CB.

The Cowboys defense finally seems to know how to deal with pick plays. Their all time low against pick plays or more complicated things like bunch formations was when Claiborne was playing. He and Scandrick never seemed to be on the same page. A big part of that was likely coaching but the current defensive players seem smarter than in the past.

It was good to see a couple of catches from Jarwin (13 yards and 12 yards). He has decent quickness.

Gallup has the ups and downs expected of a rookie WR but he shows great potential.

Noah Brown makes some very impressive blocks for a WR. I've said before that he was the best blocking WR in college that I've seen. His quickness is impressive for his size (6-2 225). He stood up a LB as the key block on one of Zeke's big runs. They did try passing from one of the plays where he motions down behind the line as a blocker. I think he was the intended target of the pass the pass rush blew up the play.

All 3 TEs looked better blocking than a few weeks ago when Swaim 1st missed a game and the others made several mistakes.

If I could add another elite player, it would be at TE. A Gronkowski in his prime type TE would make this offense very difficult to defend even with the current coaching.

Great snapshot here, Xwalker

Tight end is still an open question mark...lol

I agree, because we are certainly not going to scheme him open. Dak likes throwing to receivers who can get some separation, and Cooper has to win his matchups outright to do that. Thankfully, his route running is crisp enough to put gaps between him and the DB, even if it is someone like Norman covering him.

I felt that Zeke didn't hit the line with full energy on the 4th down play. Still feel that he could have got that yard...giving it his all.

That was big. When I saw Smith on the sidelines, I had flashes back to Chaz Green! He wasn't perfect, but he was good enough and did some good things.

4 sacks the first half...I was wondering.

Great post! I'll add that converting on 3rd down is an underrated and often overlooked 'thing' in the NFL & it seems like we're doing that much better now than we did earlier this year.

Winning the turnover battle is huge, we were +3 yesterday and it could've/probably should've been more (mccoy fumbled early in the game & it was recovered by Washington & there was a pass that barely made it over LVE late in the 3rd quarter).

Dak is very hard to arm tackle (most sacks are a result of him spinning in circles like a dreidel), you win some - you lose some, but he's done a fine job managing the game and not turning the ball over.

New Orleans will be a loss, but that's ok - just don't quit like the Eagles did.

I have been very critical of Dak and his ability to play QB at the NFL level. But that 2nd TD to Cooper is something we haven't seen him do before. That is an NFL caliber pass. If he can continue to do that and we can use the entire field in our passing attack, then we will be on to something. He has to be better on some throws, the last couple of games he has missed 13 on the sideline on what would have been big plays. Got to hit those with some regularity and throwing that deep in route, will start to back the safeties up and really open up the running game. I hope he continues to improve and trust his eyes and make the throws.

That was my comment, I based that on the articles saying LVE could play any of the three positions. Wilson is playing well, but its hard to see how you could take snaps away from any of LVE, Jaylon or Sean Lee at this point.

Having three LBs that you can play in the Nickel also gives you a lot more blitz options, which definitely plays to Kris Richard's strengths.

He seems a lot more comfortable receiving, if he is holding up blocking he is the guy I would go with at this point.

You have stolen your thread title from the famous and now deceased Blackey Sherrod of the Dallas Morning News.

That was the name of his collumn.

Read it every Sunday morning before the Cowboys game..

along with the Comic section.

Oh the memories.

If I could add another elite player, it would be at TE. A Gronkowski in his prime type TE would make this offense very difficult to defend even with the current coaching.

Any ideas on who? I keep looking at that and it looks like the only decent TE who will be a FA is Jared Cook but he is 31 years old and already overpaid. Its seems (unfortunately) that having one of our current guys break out is our best hope.

We will draft one in the second round....

I wouldn't doubt it, but even a #2 doesn't contribute much immediately. Dallas Goedert got a lot of noise on draft day and he only has 18 receptions. Clearly some of that is playing behind Ertz, he only has 24 targets but its hard to see a draft pick being a game changer for 2019.
