my coaching interview list:
garrett
gruden
sherman
capers
cowher

the top would be my true targets and i'd ask them who they know to run the defense and what they'd fix. capers would my 3rd choice going into the process and i'd pick his brain as much as possible for defensive fixes. i'd want to know if he could work with ray sherman as his OC.

i'd ask sherman the same questions as capers but in reverse.

early thought about top of coaching staff:
gruden
sherman/oc
ray rhodes/dc

gone by sundown:
barber
columbo
sensabaugh
tnew
hatcher
rw11

those are mostly just cost-based decisions. barber, rw11, tnew
columbo can't play and sensabaugh can't run a secondary so isn't worth the money he'll want.
hatcher just never showed any consistency at all.

draft targets by position per round:
r1 RT, Safety
r2 ^, ILB
r3 ^, Center
r4 ^, DE

Afterwards: Pure BPA with single pick per round.

Silly, Early Mock
1. Derek Sherrod - day 1 start at RT.
2. DeAndre McDaniel - day 1 starter at SS.
3. Kelvin Sheppard - Backup to Bradie and Sean Lee at ILB.
4. Kevin Kowalski - Backup OC day 1.
5. Edmund Gates - Slot WR, ST guy.
6. Cortez Allen - Back up CB.
7. Brandon Bair - Depth 3-4 DE.

I think Ray Rhodes had some health issues during his last run and is retired. Could be wrong. Maybe he's better now.

So who starts at CB since you're cutting Newman? And not making the position a priority at all in the off-season?

wow buddy, i like your player/draft stuff but not the coaching stuff

my list for HC:

fisher
garrett
coughlin (if he gets fired in NY)
frazier
gruden
cowher

no to capers as HC (would love him as DC)
no to ray sherman as HC (what has he done exactly?)
ray rhodes has been put to pasture

Scandrick and Jenkins.

Scandrick played well with a starting job dangled in his face.

I'd hope a high second round pick at SS alongside the improving Alan Ball is enough help in the secondary. I think McCann's upside is well noted amongst those who watched this past pre-season.

But all that said, I didn't touch what I'd do in free agency which would allow plenty of room for a CB. I'd definitely try to draft before I jumped on too many free agency types but with the CBA looming that may be the tact every team takes this year.

no worries m8.

as to the coaches...

you interview sherman to show him some respect, fill the rooney rule and try to lock him in as the next OC.

capers you interview to pick his brain about your defense ... of which he is a master. as a head coach i'd take him alongside a very strong OC if I had to but he was only my third choice. capers has never had much to work with as a head man.

you are high on fisher which is quite puzzling considering his overall win/loss record and the time he had to build a program there.

ray rhodes is a good dc who has been picking up 3-4 expertise in Houston recently. he has a great work ethic and is a good motivator. the obviously available 3-4 coach list who would accept a dc position and has experience at that level or higher isn't a long one.

He suffered a strokes and experienced stroke-like symptoms in 2005 and 2006 respectively, but he had subsequently received a clean bill of health the last few years. As jterrell mentioned, he's currently with the Texans' defensive coaching staff.

that's a ringing an endorsement.

The one defense that may be on par with the Cowboys this season.

Yeah, lets bring him in:rolleyes:

Hell no to Gruden and Cowher. Both are extremely over-rated and their ability to evaluate talent is on par with Jones.

WE NEED BETTER.

I think I'd absolutely hurl if Ray Rhodes is brought in as DC.

By the way in another thread you say you wouldnt even interview Fisher, because he was a 4-3 guy. But then you say your ideal staff has Ray Rhodes on it as DC, and Rhodes has always been a 4-3 coach.

Cowher will not interview. he wants some control and he won't get it here.

I wouldn't want Gruden as a HC.

I wouldn't want Ray Rhodes as DC. he sucks.

and can I borrow your crystal ball since you seem to have ranking of all the draftees and know how its going to unfold and which players we could get.

geeshh
