League and team sources confirmed that Schaub has signed a six-year, $48 million contract with the Texans, a move that officially consummates the trade. As part of the deal, Schaub -- who played golf with Houston coach Gary Kubiak on Monday in a get-acquainted session, the Houston Chronicle reported -- will receive $7 million in guarantees.

Schaub, 25, will earn roughly $20 million in the first three years of the contract.

After the first three years, the Texans must pay Schaub a $10 million option bonus in March 2010 to trigger the final three seasons of the contract, or he becomes a free agent.

Why are so many people comparing Schuab with Romo?

Romo has 8 more starts, more than double the completions, more than 10% higher career completion percentage, more than 2 more average yards per attempt, and more than triple his career touchdowns.

Not to mention the whole thing about going to the pro bowl his first year starting.

As his agent will say when the contract talks begin.
But in reality it all comes down to how well Romo plays this season.

The Texans were desperate to make a move that would get some buzz and show their fans something. They gave up an awful lot for this guy. It would be very funny if he ends up being David Carr II.

Exactly. People aren't comparing Romo and Schaub...their just pointing out that an even less unproven player just got dealt a huge contract...hence Romo's price just went up even higher in proportion.

how much money? Again, what has this guy ever shown/done? He's like Scott Mitchell version 2.0

That is Leonard Davis money there. However, Schaub has no BUST moniker.

Houston HAD to do something to cover their previous mistakes. This was a good move IMO. David Carr, according to his team mates is a "clock puncher". He gets to practice and meetings right at starting time and leaves immediately afterwards - no "extra" time spent. A change of scenery like Detroit, Miami or Atlanta would do him some good.

That rediculous contract just drove up the price on Romo.

Tony Romo's deal

Owner Jerry Jones has maintained that he's had informal talks with Tony Romo's agents about a new deal for the Pro Bowl quarterback. Now, he just got some parameters to work with after Houston signed newly acquired Matt Schaub to a long-term deal.

Here are the numbers: six years, $48 million with $7 million guaranteed and $20 million in the first three seasons. So what do you think Romo is going to get? I say $10 million up front and $25 million to $27 million in the first three years, if you consider Romo is a Pro Bowler who took his team to the playoffs and Schaub has made two starts in his entire career.

How much do you think he's going to get?

Hopefully at the middle to end of this upcoming season...the answer to this will be a resounding "MORE!"

Yup I hope that Tony forces us to give him big bucks ...... cause that would mean he played well this season ......

Anyway I am not worried about the contract of Romo .... Jerry has proven that he knows how to get the deal he wants.
